I use a spare phone with the Sygic phone app which gives a HUD display in the windscreen, it works well.
I know what you mean about the medical team warnings with chemo, at the start of COVID my wife used to laugh at the time it would take me to shop in a supermarket as I wouldn’t go down aisle if there was anyone else from the great unwashed public already in it, masks or not
Funnily enough I was trying that with a spare phone this afternoon but image was a bit crap. Need the reflective film to stop the double image caused by the windscreen.
It must be car dependant with the angle of the windscreen, or the phone as I don’t have that problem thankfully.
Its quite normal on a standard laminated screen. Factory fitted HUDs habe special windscreens.
You may have been lucky
Same here ! Retired on the Friday, drove down to the south coast early on the Saturday to get a ferry to Bilbao then stayed in Bayonne on the Sunday night and drove here on the Monday.
Would you recommend that longer ferry (presumbly P&O to Bilbao or Santander) rather than Channel ferry hairbear? I’d have got stuck into a diversion into San Sebastian for a couple of nights on the way back, for tapas
Problem with longer ferries is there’s nothing to do with the extra time onboard.
Sleep?
I find that a benefit.
I took Rosslare to Bilbao last February for a “change”. Boarded at midnight and arrived 32 hours later, compared to 18 hours to Cherbourg. Two hundred kms shorter drive but the wasted day onboard was boring. I’ve done the Santander to Portsmouth too, which at 28 hours is almost as bad, especially if packed with tourists
We go to Spain in January, and, although it is more expensive than driving through France, it does alleviate some of the risk of driving in wintry weather or on icy roads. There is always something to see from the ferry. Sea, seabirds, other ships, sea, sea.
Depends where you are I suppose. The reason I took the ferry is that we were moving from the UK into a furnished house near Carcassone and all our stuff wasn’t arriving for 14 days. The plan was to take our cat Odin with us on the ferry. Unfortunately there were no pet cabins left, 5 months before sailing so I took the car loaded with what we needed until our stuff arrived and the OH flew with Odin via Air France as no other airline allowed pets in the cabin. We met up in Toulouse. The ferry from Portsmouth to Bilbao (I think ?) Was very relaxing really. It took 23 hours and I arrived refreshed and ready for what was to come. Xriving down from the North coast to Carcassonne would probably have taken the same time and would have involved lots of stress and driving. I think the ferry was definitely a good idea for me. If we needed to take the car to the UK again (not likely at all) then I would do the same again.
Relax ?
I don’t do relaxing
I’ve always done relaxing. Any time, any place. It used to drive my managers mad that I could often be found lying on the floor, just thinking. Most of them didn’t really understand that it was my way of solving problems. Thing is, I was very good at my job so they couldn’t really complain. Also, I outlasted them all apart from the last one, who was very laid back himself, and understood. The best manager I ever had by far.
So how did your career as a bus driver develop?
Well, the good news is that my lymes test came back last week, and was negative!
I cannot start to tell you how relieved I was, after reading so many articles about how bad that can be, especially in the long term. Now armed with the ‘twister’ tools that @JaneJones suggested, so thanks Jane - one at home and one in outdoor gear! Plus purchased permethrin spray for hiking clothes and boots, which seems to be a practical option.
After spending a very uneventful week at home forcing myself to rest and not go out, I finally ventured out yesterday and what a joy😁 Think I now know how it must feel when an animal is released from captivity😁 I do feel weaker than before, which I guess is from spending a week at home resting, doing very little, and certainly no excercise, so tomorrow will be my day 0 for re-engaging my body and getting back into shape.
I assume it was some sort of virus that I’d caught, but a couple of friends suggested it may have been covid, which didn’t even cross my mind actually.
I have my follow up blood test in about 3 weeks, so will be very interested to see if the white blood cell count is restored. I’ve done a bit if research to see how I can influence that myself, and amongst various other things, zinc apparently helps, so now also taking a daily supplement to bolster my intake🤞
Praying blood test 2 will be coming back ‘normal’, when I finally get it🤞
Oh, and still haven’t received my ‘turning left’ fine, so not sure how long that takes to work its way through the system. A little surprised, as I gave my email address, so thought it would be with me lightning fast for them to boost the coffers!
Its good news and whilst I scoff at the “it could be covid” remark because I am sure the lab testing for lymes would have flagged that as well. Work on building up your gut microbiome as it pretty much runs your body. Fermented foods being one on the best ways of boosting it. Vitamin D3, magnesium and K2 all help.
Spoke too soon, the fine just landed in the email, 90€ for prompt payment, rising to 135€ for late, rising to 375€ for very late payment. Hope I never come across the gendarme that pulled me over, in his hour of need! If you’re knowingly breaking the law then you should face the consequences, but for a simple mistake, well, wouldn’t a simple warning suffice???
