Travelling to UK with an expired Titre de Séjour

I am in a similar position with a further complication. This is my third renewal (arrived post Brexit) and no problems with the previous one. My TDS runs out September 21. I applied to renew end of June and had numerous requests this year for extra documents which I sent and resent. On August 6th I sent an extra document and a question re the new contrat de l’engagement as to whether I needed to send the first page as well as the signed one. no response and then a letter from the Perigueux prefecture saying that as I hadn’t supplied this contrat my application could not proceed. After various attempts to email and phone the advice was to begin again. This proved impossible as my previous application is still showing en instruction. I am in limbo with no obvious way forward. The prefecture by email again advised me to reapply but when I sent a copy of the letter they had sent, they said they would forward my email to the person dealing with my dossier and they would reply this week. If they don’t reply I’m not sure what to do. My local France Service does not have any contacts within the prefecture. Any advice people?

Wowzers! Poor you.

I think you might need to post a new topic to get the attention of the Wise Ones.

Good luck and bon courage.

I’ve just received this in response to my request for a récépissé:

Une attestation de prolongation sera disponible depuis votre compte ANEF uniquement lorsque le précédent titre sera arrivé à échéance etquand l’agent instructeur aura pris connaissance de votre dossier.
Celle-ci pourra être renouvelée autant de fois que nécessaire jusqu’à l’obtention de votre titre de séjour définitif.
En attendant la mise à disposition de cette attestation de prolongation, nous vous invitons à patienter.

Bless their cold dead hearts

Well, you were trying to get something done in August.

Have you pitched up in person to try and get it sorted out. I’ve no experience of TDS or such like but I do have a lot of experience of PACS, family marriages and other administrative stuff and I have found that emails get kicked down the road, being there in person gets attention.

In fact some years ago, after extreme provocation, I got fed up in our Sous-Préfecture and stormed out, they actually came running after me and brought me back and sorted out the non issue :slightly_smiling_face: It’s just to0 easy to fob off an email.

Trop drôle!

Have you tried to get into a préfecture recently without an appointment?

Not just prefectures either but all the other bodies you have to deal with here like URSSAF,CPAM, Impôts etc. We always went along in person, took a ticket and waited in line and it never failed. Wouldn’t trust sending anything by email, only ever go in person and I still do today especially Impôts.

Unfortunately they won’t let you in without an appointment and they only grant those for the pick-up! If I don’t hear by the end of this week I’m off to my local mairie to see if they can help.

Well we’ve only a sous-préfecture Jane, but the answer is yes. In my experience persistence pays. Eventually somebody will talk to you.

Thanks everyone for suggestions and sympathy. Continuous emails seems to have had some effect and I received a reply on Friday to say my dossier is being re-opened for re-examining. Fingers crossed they will see that nothing is now missing.

How did you get on? I’m still waiting, and both myself and OH have had to cancel our UK trips, losing over €1000.

We’re planning to storm the prefecture tomorrow.

Hi
My partner risked a trip to UK by ferry (St Malo Portsmouth) with no problems in September and just didn’t show his expired carte de sejour.
Fortunately I received an attestation that I have finally received a positive answer so was able to show this with my expired carte de sejour at Bergerac airport about 10 days ago. My card is now ready for collection so just waiting for his to be available before we go up to Perigueux to collect them.
They seem much more relaxed at ferryports and of course they have started all the new registration stuff at many airports including beregrac so are looking at everything.
Hope yours works out ok.

Best regards

Sue

Thanks Sue.

Storming the prefecture worked, they sorted it out within half an hour and now I too have the attestation of acceptance. The good news is my new card will expire in October 2026, so I’ve gained a month!

Well done! I will reserve storming the prefecture for next year if necessary!

This thread has reminded me of one of the occasions when we were flying to Spain for our regular winter break. As we waited to pass through the gates at UK airport MinLaw noticed her passport was out of date… aaargh… we held our breath but none of the officials batted an eyelid.. they just didn’t notice.

We decided we didn’t mind if someone noticed on the homeward journey ‘cos at least we would have had our holiday…

Contact the Franco British Network, Sasha may be able to help you.

ETA sorry should have read all the replies before posting

Thanks anyway, I wasn’t aware of the Franco British Network, and have now signed up for their newsletter.

ETA? Estimated time of arrival?
