One gîte left us a €3 bottle of wine from Aldi, and not a local wine. We left it unopened prominently in middle of table. It wasn’t the €3 that offended us, if it had come from wine Coop next door that would be fine. That to us wasn’t a welcome gift but “I can’t be bothered to make any effort” gift.

At current prices, I don’t think many gites include that in their welcome pack.

How about a generic Cotes du Rhone red?
It’s my default wine - Côtes du Rhône Villages.

Good for you - I wasn’t criticising such wines in themselves, just giving an example of wine that doesn’t appeal to me personally. ![]()
