Understanding French Health care

I didn’t know about these payments before it was mentioned above, but if I had known I would have put my immunity down to being a French pensioner as opposed to a pensioner who lives in France.

It will probably depend on how often you get medication (ie how many 1€’s you’ve built up)

CPAM didn’t reimburse me 39 € for some kiné… When I queried it with them, they showed how my 1€’s for my regular medication had built upover time. Rather than bill me, they simply withheld a payment.
Now, last year, they billed me for the last 4 years… I paid 49€ twice and we’re straight… I think… until the next time they check their accounts

The only regular medication I take is a pill a day to prevent reflux, and a tube of cream which lasts 5 years for a small anomaly in one nostril. Never been any other than completely free for 25 years.

The hospital that we use quite often has now stopped automatically charging the mutuelle. The reason given is that some mutuelles’ systems are too cumbersome. Much easier just to hand us the bill nd let us deal with it.

Another area of considerable variation is the uploading of reports and examination results to Mon Espace Santé.
A vaccination at our local pharmacie results in an immediate updating of my personal space at Mon Espace Santé, as does a Compte Rendu from the Oncology Dept at Poitiers. However a blood test result from our local Laboratoire requires that I scan and upload it myself.

Basically, the system is neither perfect nor universal, so it becomes necessary to keep an eye on what happens in regard to visits to often frequented establishments and then take whatever action may be needed to keep the system up to date.

The phrase to look for on mutuelle documents, and to ask about from the provider, is “tiers payant” (third party paying). This means the mutuelle will settle directly with the provider and you won"t have to pay out the portion coveref by the mutuelle and claim back.
