Wall insulation with Hemp and Lime

Hi @MikeyPotts , sorry I’m very late with this question. From your posts I see the first layer was 100mm which included the hemp. I assume that layer is the one that gives the insulation and the follow on scratch coat and finishing coat are just to finish the interior?

Finally, how does this compare with ā€˜regular’ insulation in terms of efficiency, U-values or whatever?

Thanks, M.

Hi Mike

Yes, this will be the background for the scratch and finish.

I actually don’t know what the thermal performance will be…in this small sample patch, I was just wanting to experiment.

I think that there is loads of technical info on thermal performance if you do a search?

Cheers for now.

M

Thanks @MikeyPotts - an interesting experiment to do. I saw something somewhere on YouTube about an English architect who lives in Brittany who used this system to insulate a large townhouse. If I can find a link, I’ll post it here.

C’est :smiling_face_with_sunglasses: !…actually, it’s not rocket science and just requires (to do it in situ on a big scale), a decent horizontal mixer and if course, really good carpentry skills to make the formwork and finally….sweat and muscle.

Today the ā€˜people’ arrived to commence the insulation of the ceilings…4 weeks of work to come but hopefully afterwards, cosy toasty toasty :). All of the windows are replaced now.
