Waterproof Hiking Boots

Thank you, another pair for the list then.

BTW, in spite of several outings with my odd boots on, nobody has noticed yet.

And my feet are still dry. :joy:

Had a similar experience with a synthetic upper and sole pair that I bought from Decathlon. I still use them when out and about in the hills. In Ireland, we literally had Hobson’s choice of either walking in a stream which had flooded the path, or walking in the bog surrounding it. The boots stood up really well to that challenge.

Maybe better to buy in France and avoid higher shipping costs plus 8% import duty.

Lidl.fr has chaussures de randonnée available now that are at a very good price point for the quality. Also S3 boots at a good price if you need a starter pair - much stronger up ladders amongst other things. Lidl costs 5 eiros to send, some free offer codes sometimes, 30 days to return and no postage cost for returns.

Otherwise I’m Keen only for sandals - excellent for problem feet as well (less keen on their boot efforts) and Meindl.

There are various 10-15% discounts available for Cotswold and the group of other shops they are now part of (eg Snow and Rock) im UK where Cotswold is probably best to find Meindl.
Other than some very specialist shops I heard of in Scotland. However better choice of Meindl in Germany and Austria.

I’ve been to where both are made.

Thanks Karen, I’ll drag myself with gritted teeth into one of their shops if I pass, not keen on online purchasing.
I do have issues with Lidl though, from when I was working, so try to avoid them whenever possible.

Prices

Generally 4.5 / 5 rating (top left under item title) means thought good for most.

You’d be looking at 2x the price if not more elsewhere for same if not worse, quality

4.6 rating = really good
4.7 rating = really really good
4.8 or more grab it now etc.

Lidl gets it to you in 3-5 days usually. Your 5 euros gets it sent ny such as dpd or gls. I think you can collect or return, which is free, by Mondial Relay (eg a shop or restaurant) too, as well

Made out of frogskin, I presume, since the brand is Crivit.

I bought a pair of workboots, which to all intents and purposes are walking boots, from Brico when I was in Nontron. They are Stanleys and they seem ok though not bearing the magic word impermeable. I looked at the Agri Coop which seems wedded to Aigle, and Lidl. The only ones on sale there which were boots rather than shoes were the wrong size.

The only thing with the ones I bought which puzzles me is the exhortation, in extremely tiny print, to never use them without socks. :astonished: No idea why.

A bright spot in my day occurred in Lidl. As usual, and one of the reasons I avoid them like the plague, all 4 cashouts were jam packed with people in the long queues. Not wanting to push my way past I went, as you can at other stores, towards the entrance doors. Lights flashed and sirens sounded :joy:, so I retreated under accusatorial gazes, to the cashouts and put my head down to barge through. Nobody attempted to stop me.

The Stanleys are standing up well these first few days, being bright yellow they do go darker showing they have been exposed to water but fine inside.

Only problem has been that I have developed a sore on, if it was a hand, the left hand knuckle of the right foot. Not bad but reddish and irritating. So today I decided, in the absence of a stiking plaster, to go looking for some socks and found a pair of Fran’s so thought I would give them a try until the soreness subsides.

24 years out of practice, how on earth are you supposed to put these things on? :astonished: I don’t think my legs are too long or my arms too short but I can barely reach them, enough to feed a sock on anyway. But I managed it with difficulty and off we went, still feeling the soreness through the sock though. Feels quite comfy now and I will leave them on for a bit longer and decide tomorrow whether to try again or not.

You need something like this?

Mind you - good stretching exercise putting them on by hand.

Are those things attached to the socks? :astonished:

No, just tucked inside them

So you put the sock in the boot first and then insert the toes before pulling both on together, is that right? Hmm.

Regarding reaching down to put on socks, shoes etc. I have been having difficulty with this which I had put down to age. My partner, however, suggested that the roll of fat I am carrying around my waist might be getting in the way when I bend down. She is, as usual, correct. Hence my new semi-keto diet and new bathroom scales lol . . . .
Regarding the new bathroom scales, it has an app (or something) that communicates with your phone so you can see how much weight you have lost (or in my case, haven’t, because of Nutella sandwiches before bedtime . . . .

Now that is an app too far!!

Certainly is, I have the new bathroom scales, bought so I could actually see my weight accurately, they have a large digital read out that stays on the screen for 2 or 3 seconds after I step off. They would not communicate to my phone, all that does is send and receive phone calls, but I keep track of my weight by noting it down at the prompt on my onscreen calendar, every Sunday morning…
