Are you sure they are pine martens and not stone martens? Stone martens (fouine) are a lot more common (and brazen eg they often move into people’s attics…) they are fond of eggs and chicks.

There is no question that they are Pine Martens, they have “orange throats”.

We have had a large family of stone martens in our lofts for 4 years and encourage them to keep the mice down in the 3 lofts above the cottage and in the 2 lofts above the stables.
Cute looking and funny to watch when they are playing but vicious.

Without wishing to bring sex into the discussion…Lol… surely the terms cock and hen apply to the sex of all birds. whereas chicken is a generic term applying to many specific breeds of Gallus gallus domesticus
