As I see it, provided the wires are safely capped off to ensure that they can’t touch at the socket end, then unless they can physically move in some way to cause a short at another junction, they should be safe.

I’d agree, but I’d want to see how it has been made safe with my own eyeballs (which, obviously, you plan to do).

I plan to cap off the socket end, probably with a block connector. Not sure about pulling the tableau off the wall to check what’s inside.
