What are your thoughts? - Brit denied French Nationality (citizenship)

Sorry, but really don’t agree with you on that Grahame, the CDS application process has been simplified in the extreme. Even before the website application system specifically designed for Brits, the French authorities were asking no more of Brits than they did of any other EU national. The fact that it is bureaucratic is nothing new per se.

and just to back-up your argument a little further, Alex, a titre de séjour for other non-europeans costs 269€, Brits are going to get them free or only have to pay 119€ (not 269€) if the UK leaves without an agreement. Extremely favourable treatment, the French State seems to bending over backwards to help Brits in my opinion. Not quite sure it’s the same thing outre manche ! :open_mouth:

Just like Brexit is what it is, French naturalisation rules are what they are, the guy will just have to accept it and move on.

With regards to a French pension, I thought that you could add any UK NI contributions to your trimestres here so you may find you’re not as bad off as you think, of course Brexit might change that.

Britons resident in France before the end of the transition period will get their new CdS free, the point at which the €119 fee might have applied ended last Friday.

Where’s the reference for that Dan? So much conflicting info around so I can’t pinpoint where I got the impression that if you already have a 10 year card the transition will be free, but otherwise there will be a modest fee. So good to have authoritative source and bin the rest.

The statement on the website says nothing re cost.

which is what I said, Dan

although I didn’t use “would have had to pay 119€” as I’m still not sure that the UK won’t crash-out of the transition period into the big wide world without the relevant deals with the EU, in which case perhaps the carte de séjour will revert to being as with other third countries, 119€ or even the 269€ which the others pay… :open_mouth:

But it’s the withdrawl agreement that was important as far as the cost of the CdS was concerned and that has passed. I think you have been confused by the fact that the term no-deal has been used to cover two different things, the Withdrawl Agreement and trade agreements.

It’s the up to date information and has appeared on these pages several times already. Look at the question about costs.

How on earth do you know what ‘they’ think? And who are ‘they’?

That’s a load of cobblers!

I do hope it’s cobblers…with all I paid to RSI for 11 years,I’d to think that it wasn’t for nothing, at the end

I just wondered whether there was something more current, as that has yet to be updated post brexit. So good news if that’s it as I can think of other uses for 119€!

We have retired artisan friends who don’t seem to be penny pinched, and say themselves that their financial circumstances are good. Mind you they are sensible people so will have planned carefully, so if you have your trimesters then all should be ok.

Yes, that’s the situation as it stands but who knows how this is going to really end…!

As I was born in ‘64, I need 152 trimestres apparently… last statement I had from RSI stated that I had 11, when I should something like 40.

We have lost our freedom of movement.

It took 42 pages each to get a Carte de Sejour, and that was when we were European citizens.

Not yet but nearly.
Gained it Jan 1973. Lost it Dec 2020. 48 years we had it. Less than the average lifespan.
Twas mine tis theirs tis gone.

Christ, 42 pages each what did they ask for?
I won’t have to go through all that but I imagine a fair few on here will & it may help them prepaire for it.

I reckon 42 pages is modest! I think ours was somewhat more. And my pile of paper for nationality application is already nearly 1kg.

Oh come on, that’s the information you need published just before the end of January. If you want more proof I’ve seen plenty of posts showing emails sent to people since Feb 1st stating that they will be able to receive their ‘new’ CdS without paying a fee. I’m sure you can find one of them.
I find this muddying of the waters when the facts are there very confusing.

Maybe, your memory is obviously better than mine as can never remember which website, which email alert, which thread or which person provided latest stuff.
