11 Years old 1st year of senior school as it was then known the new music teacher asked did anyone wish to learn to play a musical instrument, my right hand went up and Trumpet was the reply to which instrument. Up until then i had no inclination to play anything little did i know that 51 years later i would retire from playing Soprano Cornet in a Brass Band and little did i know the hard work and time spent at practice 4 hours every night after school even during the holidays ,leaving school still carried on practice Sunday morning and one evening a week with various bands .Appearances on tv ,radio, made a record, competitions made lifelong friends but most of all gave me an understanding and a love of music.
