Iāve done that with one engine before, but spotted my error before trying to fire it back up. Engine didnāt seem to mind,
Hopefully, theyāre not a cardiac specialist.
Thatās what my rheumatologist proposed, but having had two injections into my palm which were excruciating I declined.
Which would be excellent if I was a German resident. Anyone know of good options here in France?
I have to disagree. In theory, no one is attached to the methods they learned but they have them done so many times that they wouldnāt want to find out it is suboptimal or detrimental. As I mentioned, this surgeon immediately dismissed radiation therapy, talking about the dangerous nature of receiving X-rays (but it is low dose, like dental X-rays) and said my Dupuytren is not serious yet (despite me telling him it hurts all the time) and I should just wait until my fingers are curled 45 degrees and then just get it operated on. So much for being open to other methods widely practiced ( a lot in Germany, Australia and now Canada).
He didnāt want to look at the summary of the medical journal article I had open on my phone.
Not the first time a surgeon has told me surgery is the only option and then I have to bring up the other options (like physiotherapy, cortisone injections, etc.) which are all dismissed out of hand.
Yes, sorry. I just posted it in case someone would be interested. Maybe try AI?
Look for a hand surgeon who does aponevrotoies, like this one in Alsace
National medical orthodoxy is pretty tedious, especially when entrenched, what is funny is that it varies quite a bit but many practitioners canāt accept the concept. I had very effective treatment for shingles in Belgium years ago which was dismissed as sci-fi nonsense in the UK, it wasnāt even anything weird or difficult.
Something that would make me not move back to the UK is hearing the arguments made by some of the people on BBC Question Time recentlyā¦
James OāBrien says he has contempt for the conmen but compassion for the conned. Apparently heās a nicer person than I am. Some in the QT audience were clearly conned but are too stupid to have even realised it. I have no compassion whatsoever for these idiots.
I wouldnāt benchmark yourself against the alcoholic that is James OāBrien, that is scraping the barrel.
He has made a living off Brexit and was a big supporter of Johnson.
Itās surprising how easily people are conned, on both sides, look at Green voters. Although thankfully that seems to have been short lived and without any consequences such as Brexit..
That seems a bit unnecessary. No issues with challenging anyoneās points of view but I donāt think thatās required.
Iām intrigued by the one Brexit benefit that was identified, that we could have our own farming subsidy scheme but itās just not there yet.
I know next to nothing about farming but is that true? 10 years later and still no farming scheme?
I think both you and your doctor agree on the evidence that it is Dupuytren disease?
As to the most appropriate treatment, I read there are many options that depend on the progression in individual affected. The doctor gave his opinion as to the treatment, but you favoured another way.
Yes, I agree as to treatments can be suboptimal as we live in the real world where methods are restricted by budgets and regulation. I am not sure which country you live in but is radiation treatment permitted, is it paid for, are doctors trained in the treatment? In the end doctors cannot be trained in everything or have the time to assess every case down to the nth degree; evidence shows that a particular treatment is effective in the majority of cases.
PS It appears you are in France and it is not offered as a treatment. It is a long thread and has gone off on many tangents.
I have heard people call Trump and Musk much worseā¦
My comment was to the above. I was challenging that he wasnāt as nice as OāBrien. It was in no way a slur against Gareth, quite the opposite in fact.
Is he an alcoholic? Any source please?
In 2020 he said
āI voted for Boris Johnson to be Mayor in 2008. (Obviously, Iāve changed my opinion of him since.) One cult tries to use this fact to claim that I must somehow still support him. The other cult has to ignore it to claim that Iād oppose & criticise him no matter what. Stupid cults.ā
I knew somebody who worked at LBC.
Reading more I have found the concept dating from the 1950s and the 5 steps:
- Defining a clinically relevant question (doctor searches for information to find correct diagnosis)
- Searching for the best evidence (doctor searches for evidence to support the findings from Step 1)
- Assessing the quality of the evidence (doctor ensures that quality and reliability is high)
- Acting on the evidence to form a clinical decision (based on Steps 1-3, patient and doctor jointly make an informed treatment decision)
- Evaluating the process (doctor and patient assess if the intended outcome is achieved and adjust treatment decisions accordingly if needed)
I think steps 1-3 were fulfilled but then onwards there was divergence. One over arching principle is safety, I do not find any reasoning why radiation therapy is not offered in France; that limits the options to agree.
Did you seek a second opinion?

And so? thatās not really proof of alcoholism. Are you perhaps confusing this with the fact that he has interviewed many alcoholics about addiction on his podcast?
Yes, I am in France and no, radiation therapy doesnāt seem to be recognized or covered here at all.
Yes, he and I agree it is Dupuytren. He didnāt just give his opinion; he only shared one solution (surgery) and then only dismissed the other option after I brought it up. It was the same with the Carpal Tunnel Syndrome. He only discussed surgery as an option. At a follow-up appointment, I said that my physiotherapist had recommended cortisone injection. He had not mentioned it and was then fairly dismissive (along the lines of āgo ahead and try THAT, if you want to, and then Iāll see you back here for surgery as that is really the only way to open the ātunnelāā).
He has now done that surgery, a month ago, and that hand is now worse than the other one and worse than it was before the surgery. Iām not impressed.
