Where to live in France

Over the years, we have visited towns and cities - Angers, Nantes, Tours, Sarlet & Montignac, Dijon, Lyon, Aix-les-Bains, Aix-en-Provence, Avignon, Bordeaux, Biarritz, Toulouse, Paris to name but a few. However, it was a week's holiday on a narrow boat on the Canal du Midi that convinced us Languedoc was the place for us. We found the wonderful mediaeval village of Lagrasse (thanks to an SFN member) and are here 18 months now. It is a wonderful place to live and we "townies" are embracing village life with gusto! Half an hour from the Med, 40 minutes to the wonderful Cité of Carcassonne, and less than 2 hours to the Spanish border. Also within easy reach are Narbonne, Beziers and Toulouse.

We started visiting Northern France....Pas de Calais and followed the Normandy Coast....liked it

all. Then we purchased the windmill in Brittany near Cancale...a pleasant place for a holiday home.

Through the years we have seen lots of the Cote D Azur, Provence, Burgandy, Loire, Vendee and

Charente. Paris, yes, of course Paris. Not forgetting that we followed the coast from Monpellier to

the Spanish Boarder. We liked it all but we settled for 33 which takes us close to the vines....on the

way to Bordeaux and near to St Emilion which made buisness sense for us.

I did not fail to miss the stretch from here towards ST Sabastien in Spain.

Is it living up to expectations?

Yes it is life....green, sunny, peaceful,a good place to make new friends and

aquiantances. Cold in winter and there is always a promise of a long summer.

Has to be

Cap D'Agde

Burgundy has it all - except the sea! We love it here in the middle of wine country, very rural, spectacular wine, centuries of history/culture and great restaurants.

The winter is pretty awful but we intend to move down South eventually, to the warm and the sea!

I've been living in the Beaujolais just north of Lyon for 21 years and love it but I would like to live near the sea for a while before I clog-pop.

We live in 24 in the Bastides bit between Bergerac and Sarlat. How? I got a plane to Bergerac, hired a car and took a week to look, find and hey presto.

If I was to do it again I would go to Departments 11, 40, 64 and 66 and take a bit longer until finding what we would like.
