Which antivirus?

You"re right Alex. Apart from any technical issues, Hackers get a better ROI targeting Windows.

Good point,

But hackers are well used to producing trojans and spyware for Unix (Linux) based machines. Easy enough to do and often written in a language that will run across multiple software platforms.

Of course the big downside to using Linux is the lack of familiar software/apps and that interoperability with the Windows world is still not easy and while Linux uses fewer resources than Windows (in general) it no longer as lightweight as it used to be. Even with Linux you still need anti-virus software.

For people with a deeper knowledge of hardware and software Linus is still perhaps the way to go but for non-technical computer users Windows (for all its faults) has to be the preferred option.

But this is becoming a technical discussion between people who have considerable knowledge of the different operating systems (in my case some 40 plus years) rather than providing advice for people who, largely speaking, just want to turn on their computer and use it.
