We just finished watching the 1st season of Young Sherlock, directed by Guy Ritchie and found it absolutely brillant. https://youtu.be/rXMrTALO2ME?is=oI9aXtRGmsnur0f9

Watched the new remake of Wuthering Heights last night. TBH I would not pay to go and see it at a cinema as it’s quite boring, very dark and dingy with a very strong gothic overtone in scenery. Best part is Martin Clunes as a constant drunk Earnshaw. Heathcliffe just looked so dirty I went and had a bath instead of watching the last half hour as it nearly made me doze off.

I wonder if he looked any cleaner afterwards.

Denzel Washington, in his more mature years, is one of my favourite actors, generally playing the good guy. But in his 2001 film ‘Training Day’ he is absolutely the opposite!

To begin with, as the film started, I thought he was just messing about, but towards the end he clearly wasn’t! Want to see a badly corrupted city cop, then watch on BBC iPlayer.

Another film is ‘Flight’ on YouTube, about an alcoholic airline pilot. The opening scene is a bit rude but within a few minutes a typical Denzel Washington swagger steps forth.

I like Denzel too. We did watch Flight once but I’m afraid I found it quite depressing. Well acted though.

He was excellent in Man On Fire as well.

Have to agree re: Denzel in his more mature years. Loved all 3 of The Equalizer films especially the third one where he takes on the Mafia :slightly_smiling_face:

Me too!

Good film and the actress (Dakota Fanning) that played the part of the little girl he was protecting starred in Equalizer 3 with him too :slightly_smiling_face:

I had a surprise the other day when I turned on the TV and found the original series of Doomwatch was showing. This was from 1970 and we were not allowed to watch it as dad did not care. for science fiction stuff and I was not even a teenager. It is typically Dr.Who early studio stuff and Robert Powell is about 25 in it. The feature film was on again the week before about the island poisoned by illegal hormone dumping.

I tell a lie - haven’t seen Equalizer 3, but have now - downloaded it!

I wondered why he and Dakota Fanning starred in both Man on Fire & Equalizer 3, twenty years apart. Maybe you already know, but it was due to a long-term friendship, he’s known her since she was 9 years old, their chemistry clicked, she is a close friend one of his daughters and they liked and respected each. Good enough reasons.

Whoops - forgot to mention, apparently there are Equalizer 4 & 5 being thought about!

For any other fans of All the President’s Men which was made 50 years ago, this article goes into the efforts the team made for the film to be authentic.

Rather moving I thought. Colin Firth plays Duke of York, who became King of England, father of Queen Elizabeth, and who’s life was plagued by an unremitting stammer. Story of his collaboration with a speech therapist who became a lifelong friend - and saviour I’d say.

However, if he hadn’t had such a stammer, he wouldn’t have started smoking, which he was advised to do so by an official speech therapist, which contributed to his death. Our history would be different had he lived, had he’d not been advised to smoke.

The King’s Speech on BBC iPlayer.
