Where are you going on holiday?

July was a bad month for tourism in the Languedoc with reports of 61 % of 2500 professionals saying they are down 57% on previous year. Its looking more optimistic for August. Is it the weather, la crise? I just wondered where are you going on holiday or are you having a so called staycation?

We, re off tomorrow...yeea can, t wait. Not very far, we live in between Uzes and Nimes and we, re only going 1 hr away. I don, t see the point in driving/travelling in traffic jams for hours. So, this is the 3rd yr in a row we have been, it, s a campsite called Le Boucanet in le Grau du Roi..heaven on earth. Lovely wooden mobile home, huge terrace, wooden garden furniture, air conditioning, dish washer, flat screen tv (don, t watch it lol ) and best of all..right on the beach. All you hear morning and evening is the waves, lovely sea breeze..we love it. So, off tomorrow for 2 weeks ;)

Did it, back last Monday. Up at over 1200 metres in the southern Alps in the family chalet with trips down to see family, people up to us and over to bro-in-law's mountain place. Weather was mainly cloudy, we were above most of it but still got rain. Last weekend it was hot and sunny most of the time so we spent most of both days at the public pool, Saturday only one other family and nobody else but Sunday busy-ish but pleasant. Children spent five or six hours in the water both days, just swimming and diving. Both found that fabulous. My first 'holiday' for three years so good to get the rest.

Hello Suzane, for me it will be Paris this year, not the big city but close enough to get both day & night fun, I use http://www.city-getaway.com/en/apartments-to-rent-in-Paris/2 to rent an apartment and it matches always my expectations.

We went on an Abraham land cruise to Cancun last year. This year we're going on another Abraham cruise...this time on a liner from Southampton to the Canaries for 14 days...with talks every morning whilst we're at sea by Abraham...on the Law of Attraction.

My life has changed for the better since listening to the teachings of Abraham...any one who's interested...just Google Abraham Hicks...on Utube...wonderful.

:-D

Suzanne, we live in the Languedoc also, and it, s true to say the weather has been very weird this year, sun, rain, storms, we never know from one day to the next what the weather is going to be like. Saying that, last Saturday Uzes was packed solid with tourists, more than I have ever seen here in 13 years. We are going on holiday...not very far..only 1 hour away to the Grau du Roi. I really do ,nt see the point in driving for hours, being stuck in traffic jams etc when we have got a beautifull coast line so close. So, we are going to Camping le Boucanet, wooden mobile home..on beach front..air conditioning..dish washer..huge terrace, lovely wooden furniture, restaurant, supermarket...Aigues Mortes nearby, Grau du Roi nearby, La Grande Motte nearby..it really is heaven. Morning and evening all youhear are the waves...16days to go..bit excited, our 3rd year there.

For the 1st time in over 8 years we are going "away". Living only 20 minutes from the Med and 40 from Spain never felt the need before. Our village is quiet this year, tourist numbers are down and restaurants are no problem to get into.

We have decided to go to Goa, if we can get a Visa. Our applications were returned last week as we applied too early! we go on the 29th December from Heathrow! Travelling to the UK for Christmas to see the new granddaughter and take some wine up and bring some paint, foodstuffs and BACON down.

Friends taking a house near by from Saturday for 2 weeks and my son - who is teaching sailing at Souston for the summer - is also taking a few days off so enjoying the area where I live here in South Landes. White water rafting, go-karting, the amazing beach on the west coast (if it doesn't rain every day!), dinghy sailing, a couple of meals out and lots of BBQs.

In the UK for Christmas.

I'm sure they will enjoy the cable car more than your cycle ride !

I work with German clients nr St Cyprien, Perigord noir and our holiday apartment prices have been kept low by the tour operator plus discounts for multiple weeks. However we had 50 % occupancy through May and much of June and full from late June to early september. French clients came during the ponts and easter. Even they complain that everything is expensive. A day out costs a lot for a family and our petrol stations decide to increase prices for holidays.

Holidays don't exist for me having cdd's from April to November - good job the weather is great this year !!!

:-)

On the other hand, it was we who brought the sun :-)

It's the weather. We're hoping here for a late summer Sep/Oct then we're driving down (with dog and golf clubs) to Southern Spain for a month mid Oct - mid Nov. You can get some really cheap deals in Spain at moment. We've just booked a 2 bedrm cottage with spa on terrace within 10 minutes of the sea, alongside a golf course, normally priced at £300 a week for £700 for the month. The province of Almeria is well South for good weather all year plus its largely unspoilt.

So it was you clogging up our roads :-)

We avoid July and August like the plague! Spent three weeks in Brittany in June. Brilliant sun every day. Things seem a bit quieter down here too though the canoe hiring companies still seem to be doing a roaring trade in the Gorges du Tarn. But we drove through the Gorges last Sunday and there was hardly any traffic on the roads when normally you crawl along behind a queue of camping cars at this time of the year. Nevertheless, the tourists are here as we found on Sunday when we had to park miles from the restaurant we were going to because the town was packed.

Sending this from the 5th day of our cheapy in Porto (from Limoges). We've booked our yearly trip to Mauritius for Dec and Jan., but it's getting a bit of a drag now as we're getting older. We've put our house there up for sale, but how long that'll take is anyone's guess.More and more I'm getting to like just enjoying being at home.

I had thought of going to the Drome, but then considered that we had our own heated pool here in southern Burgundy, so have decided to take a staycation.

We are checking out the best restaurants in the area instead.

We have let seven weeks of the high season for our gite and are quite pleased as this is really our first year and other people seem to be having trouble.

Everyone who has stayed has been delighted, so that is encouraging.

We don't go anywhere during the summer: too many friends and family visiting and anyway, where's better than southern Tarn in high summer? (Actually, this year, it's not that "high" but it's the same everywhere except, so I'm told, western Scotland). Three days away end August in Corbières/Costa Brava. Then a visit to our daughters in England mid-September and - maybe - a few days in a friend's chalet in the Alps.

We're actually closing the tabac for a week (a once a year event, otherwise it's open everyday) and nipping down to the pyrénées for a few days stay on a campsite (pool and activities for the kids) in a mobilehome just outside Luchon. The kids will get to ride in the cablecar from Luchon to superbagnère while I ride the climb, I'll get to ride up some other good cols too :-D

Otherwise things are very quiet locally, some who are tourist dependant are talking about trying to find a second job to make ends meet :-(
