Brexit - really?

true, John. Everytime we're using the Eurostar we see hunderts of young French and English people, enjoying the freedom for studying in either country. Its them paying a huge price. There are more issues, like the right to vote in the UK if you live abroad and so many other issues which now have to be negotiated. To make matters worse: bank culling will be underway shortly (my collegue in Honkong wrote banks there where going absolutly bonkers). Is it a money landering? Where have this billion lost gone in just one day?

How sad that such an enlightened being as yourself didn't get out there and warn all those wayward, inferior voters. Every elections leaves some disgruntled, just over 50% happy, and the rest who accept the overall democratic choice and behave as adults, rather than moan, groan and criticize

I think a lot of people voted Leave as a sort of protest, to give the Government, Establishment, whatever a kick in the pants. They didn't think it would actually happen.

Very sad, a whole country sleepwalking into trouble led by a couple of slimy pied pipers. Farage started backtracking on NHS funding within hours of the result and Boris looked shocked, like dog that been chasing a car and on catching it doesn't know what to do with it.

If I was one of the 16,000,000 that voted to remain I wouldn't let it stand there. It's too important. There should have been a higher bar, as was advocated here https://petition.parliament.uk/petitions/131215

John - please drop the personal comments. They contravene our Netiquette policy. Thank you.

Whereas calling the SFN folk who supported Brexit 'stupid and naive' isn't personal at all.

If the comment is directed at an individual poster then the same applies. If it's a comment on those who voted it's an opinion. I hope that clarifies things for you Tony.

You know what they say about Opinions, everyone has one etc.........

This Thread has run its course and needs to be closed for the wounds to be healed.

Depends on the voting mechanism John. For example in local and general elections proportional representation vs first past the post.

However with this referendum the idea of 16,000,000 disgruntled folk just rolling over on such a serious matter is not acceptable IMO. Especially since the 17,000,000 hadn't got a clue what the were voting for except a leap into the unknown. And that's just dawning on them, poor fools.

There are no wounds Tony and shutting down a discussion on the hottest topic in town would be silly IMO.

That's a great clip.

That's your opinion Tony! And of course you are quite entitled to it!

Whereas insulting the intelligence of pro-Brexit voters is okay as long as the insulted person isn't present?

That's not a good attitude

When is out out? When the UK Parliment says so, not when the people do.

John, we have already signed this and e-mailed our friends. It is interesting that they only ask if you are a British citizen, not if you are registered to vote, so all British citizens can sign.

well, there is a suggestion that if the UK don't do it, the EU lawyers are trawling through the fine print in Art 50 to see if they can do it...

This is going to be messy... very messy

Being positive and showing determination is the way to go.......

Several people have said it (it turns out) but attitude is all....

The French call that ' urinating into a violin '

The government would be extremely ill-advised to attempt to ignore the LEAVE vote.

Greece was ignored by Brussels when there was a referendum, but Brussels would only do that because Greece had and have the €uro as their currency.

"(quite alot of the fault for this I believe lies with the likes of Claude Yunker and some of his arrogant cronies)" Who is this Claude Yunker? Unless you mean Jean-Claude Juncker.

Theo,

Maybe not on the same scale, but there have been student exchange schemes run between Universities, long before we joined the EU.....There is nothing to stop this happening again to extend and build on this via all sorts of routes...my cousin spent a year of her sixth form living with a family and studying at a high school in California, through something called The American Field Service....

Emmaus, through which my neice spent a year of her degree studying at Besancon Uni, is still going to be running and that is world-wide.....http://www.emmaus-international.org/

One doesn't need to be part of Europe for all these good things to happen......

Your not going to tell me that he's any better.......
