The insurance company Lloyd's of London has offered up to €1 million for information leading to the recovery of jewels stolen from the Carlton hotel in Cannes last month.
On July 28th an armed man made off with jewellery worth an estimated €103 million in a brazen broad daylight heist at the luxury hotel on the promenade. Brandishing a semi automatic pistol, the thief stole jewels that were part of an exhibition by a group owned by Israeli billionaire Lev Leviev.
A spokesperson for the insurers said, "A reward of up to 1,000,000 euros pro rata is offered to the first person who provides information which leads to recovery of the goods. Offer subject to certain conditions, persons with specific information should contact SW Associates on 0033 610950564 between 18h00-19h00 or send a mail to reward1millionE@gmail.com."
Police say they were unaware of the exhibition taking place in a wing of the hotel which had direct access to the street.
I am surprised that the insurers did not stipulate more security for such a valuable exhibit. Inside job? What do you think?
