In relation to this inquiry which everyone so generously helped with...
I have just been told by an accountant friend that private pensions are taxable in France and I should place this income on line 8TV of form 2047 (Box 8 on the back page), and on line 8TV of the 2042C (which we have to fill out because we are AE registered).
I had some loft insulation installed last year and I understand one can get tax credits for eco-friendly installations. The Connexion tax guide says use 7WE - 7WF. There is no 7WF on 2042 and 7WE only has space for a cross or tick.
The Connexion tax rebate guide has no mention of the 2013 version which has nowhere to enter anything.
Ooops...one other question. Do you have to put anything on 2047 for Assurance Vie accounts? They are just sitting there earning and nothing has been withdrawn. I was thinking that the taxation on any interest was 'automatic'....?
They do apparently distinguish between taxed and untaxed income. Brian. My tax inspector has asked several times if my UK pension is taxed at source (he's worried I'm paying twice which is nice!). If it was taxed I gather I'd have to put it in another part of the tax form. As it isn't, I've not looked into this any further but I gather you have to produce a bit of paper showing how much tax you've paid already and if it's less than you would have paid in France then they grab the difference. Suspect it makes life more complicated but the Germans, being efficient, will no doubt have it sorted. Best to have a chat with your local tax man beforehand so you know exactly how you stand long before you actually have to fill in the return. Bonne chance!
Hope so, UK is too little for them to take tax whereas the Germans will because it is an almost respectable amount... That was my real itchy thought I suppose.
Don't worry. They're only interested in your income, Brian, not whence it came! I have two state pensions -- UK and France -- as does my wife and no-one has ever asked how come we have both.
Since you are resident in France Robin you should be paying no tax in Ireland. You need to declare the income in France where it may or may not attract tax depending on your other income.
Terry, I'm getting worried... I shall get the 'scrapings of the barrel' from the UK for the few years I worked there/paid for my state pension. I also deferred my German state pension until the same time this year. My worry is that French bureaucracy will not comprehend two state pensions whereby the one from the latter is about three times as much as the former from whence I appear, at least by nationality, to have come.
I'm an oddity Doreen! Although I was officially UK-based I hardly ever worked there and my private pension is paid by the company's Paris office in Euros so I just get an annual letter (when they remember!) telling me what sum they have declared to the French tax authorities.
I'm not sure, Robin, as I am registered as AE and don't have a pension (yet) from Ireland. The P60 should show what taxes have bee paid, and I may be wrong but I thought if you have paid tax and social contributions already at source, you don't pay them again. Hopefully others better informed than me will respond.
Sheila, you are right...it is an Irish P60 (Republic of Ireland, that is). So I am right in assuming that this small annuity is subject to tax but not social charges/cotisations? And that's why it goes in box VII of the 2047?
Well, I guess my French is improving if I'm comprehending the 'Aider à Remplir' booklets that came with the tax forms! :-)
Yes to the first three questions. I don't actually know what a P60 is but I've read and been told that you don't have to include "justificatifs" of earnings with the tax return. But you must keep them in case they ask you for them later.
Can someone tell me if I have this right? My husband receives a small annuity payment from a private pension in Ireland. It is my impression that we report the total amount under décalrant 1 on the front of form 2047, and also that it should be in box VII (on the last page of 2047) with this total amount then being reported on form 2042 on line 8TI.
Is this correct? And should we to include a copy of the P60 Certifiate of Tax document that was sent from Ireland?
Does anyone know please in which box on form 2047 one should declare a tiny amount of income from some freelance work carried out outside France and not previously taxed ?
Just picking up on Hilary's point - about 2047 - last year I asked if I still had to complete 2047, since it is not available for completion online, and my 2042C is completed online (in the case of the Haute Vienne by 11th June this year). I was told categorically I had to complete the paper version of 2047, since my only income is from the UK, and it must be delivered by 31st May!
