2025 French tax returns

A date for your diaries….current indications are that the French tax return filing season will officially open on 9 April, when you are (supposed to be!) able to access the online tools to prepare and file your tax return. Deadlines are in the screenshot below, depending on which department you live in..Paper tax returns must be filed by 19 May.

Also your online tax account “espace particulier’“ in the Impôts website is now rebranded “Mon espace Finances Publiques”…

Have been getting all the fiscal attestations from the bank and French pension providers and insurance during the past month to be ready to check the amounts the fisc has on record for last year. Very useful as they tell you which form and which box to put them in

Thanks, @George1 .

Our paper form arrived yesterday.

Did you have to request them?

No. In fact, my intention is to do it online this year, since it’s the second time.

It was so nice (relatively speaking) to do the declaration online last year, also for the first time. Alas, this year I get to do it online (joint) AND on paper just for me , since my wife died last year. Insult added to injury…

I first did it online in 2023 and then received a paper form which was handy as I could check my figures with the official copy but then trouble ensued as the online went to one address for the fisc locally that deals with this commune and the paper one came from the main office in the city. Eventually both offices “talked to each other” and as I did not have anything to pay, it settled down until the TF came later in the year and again the same problem until I went in person to the office dealing with my commune who, since then have been the only one to send the paperwork. I got charged a late payment from the city office because I did not reply to them with payment but that got cancelled before I even paid it. Make sure you have all the details correct before you start the journey is my advice as some fonctionnaires don’t know their a**es from their elbows!

Ah, it’s my first time but I’m sure I’ll figure it out

We had a very helpful phone call from someone at Chatellerault, correcting a couple of mistakes. And they were quite quick with the France Individuel DT forms, so you’ve picked the best departement!

I hope so. I think I’ll need to contact them as I might have made a blunder and been a bit tardy in updating our biens immobilier to reflect that the house is now our maison principale. I don’t really want to be paying taxe d’habitation this year.

I thought paper returns were no longer accepted….

Not everybody has a computer, but what is true, as far as I know, is that once you have made the change there is no going back.

I have been trying to find a guide or video that would be helpful for those doing their returns online for the first time. I can’t say the search has been very rewarding but this one, showing some of the screenshots, whilst far from perfect, is the most useful I’ve found so far. It’s obviously developed for an earlier tax year, but the overall suggested approach is largely unchanged.

No - I still receive the paper forms - and always include a little note when returning the form expressing my appreciation of the courtesy of the tax people in allowing me to continue using paper forms. I do have a computer, but always struggle with on-line forms, and I have found our local tax office to be very understanding - even sent them a Christmas card one year !!

Hopefully our Paper Return will arrive today/next few days :crossed_fingers:

I get the monthly email from Isabel Want, which will include a link to a guide to filling in your forms.

I think that, if it’s your first time, you have to find the forms yourself - I downloaded them - despite what our local office said, they are not sent out automatically.

Thank you @George1 that will be most helpful to prevent me from falling into the 2047/2042 trap that has caused me such a lot of trouble this year. I will print that off and have it alongside me to avoid more such angst.

Just received blank form 2047-NK in the post… hopefully the partially-completed main Declaration form will arrive soon :+1: :crossed_fingers:

EDIT: it’s now 8 days later (9/04/2026) and no sign of the 2042 form as yet.
The paper document needs to be completed and sent back by 19th May..

I’ll get our figures together this weekend and (hopefully) the 2042 will arrive next week… :crossed_fingers:

I usually end up getting the Connexion guide (for example to confirm the exchange rate) although the mistakes are irritating.
This year, have they made a mistake before the thing’s even published? Or am I missing something?

Very unlike the Confusion to make a mistake
