Assuming you are physically in France, if in doubt go to your local hôtel des impôts, they are usually very helpful even if stressed at this time of year.
Welcome to SF.
I would definitely not recommend excluding pages, particularly of the core return forms eg 2042, 2047 since the scanners used by tax offices will probably reject the return as incomplete. You can though ditch entire (“specialist”/niche) separate schedules/annexes sent to you - if irrelevant.
Paper clips or an envelope for loose schedules - yes. Staples - no - as the latter will slow down the scanning process and need to be manually removed…(I know that clips will also need to be removed but are easier…)
Hi and welcome - just a thought, if you do go down to the impot, when handing the return in, ask them to stamp a photocopy of the first page to confirm receipt…?
They should give you a receipt anyway but you could always ask them for a stamped copy of the front and back
Right or wrong we now have a completed tax return though I have just read it’s unwise to leave out pages of the 3916 with no input. The accountant said it would be okay but maybe I’ll print and include them. The last hurdle - well before submission anyway - is where to take or post the damn thing. Government websites do not tell me! One AI tool says Figeac and another Cahors. Would not trust AI for something like this.
Do I just submit the form to the nearest SIP?
Isn’t there an address on the blue paper form?
Thanks! This is really helpful. Didn’t get any forms sent as it was the first one, so it is all what I have downloaded from the web… hopefully I haven’t missed anything. But I half suspect it may be incomplete by virtue of me missing something
They don’t send them now Vero. Just have downloaded forms
No address on those? At worst and if possible I suppose people can take the form to the nearest hôtel des impôts themselves. But they’d better get their skates on.
Really? Do they send them to you by email then?
One downloads them from a central source. I’ve found a list of SIPs and there’s one near me in Cahors. What I don’t know is if all SIPs accept tax returns. My forms are all filled and ready to go. May just go to the local office tomorrow to see if they will accept them. Otherwise I’ll have to post them once I have the correct address. I’ve been told that having a postmark of Tuesday is the latest possible option.
Thanks Vero. From FB Fiscal group I had - SIP just means Service Impot Particuliers and yes they handle returns. They may or may not accept random visits and you may or may not get a receipt. You can send it by LRAR which is registered mail. Will see if we can hand it over tomorrow else post it.
You have Cahors, Figeac and Gourdon. I tbink they allocate you to whichever one is nearest. There’s a case for sending it to Cahors though anyway as it’s the Prefecture city - I have no idea if they would knock it back and tell you to send to Figeac or not as I believe that’s your nearest.
I just googled the Impôts address when I needed it
Pref or sous-pref makes no difference, whichever is closest is fine. Sometimes the impôts fonciers aren’t in the same place as the impôts sur le revenu, which can be confusing, not that that matters at the mo. Get everything mensualisé and yourself into the system to do it online, it is a zillion times easier.
Actually Cahors is much closer Karen. We are near Lalbenque.
Since the post office is directly opposite the tax office, it seemed silly to post, so I thought I would try dropping it in person… The office is busy this morning!
Hopefully a tampon will be forthcoming. ![]()
When I used to queue-up outside our Tax offices to go through my queries with a real person, I would see folk popping envelopes into the clearly labelled letter box outside the building, right beside the entrance… and, in later years did the same if the queue at the desk was tooo long, ![]()
never got anything stamped though… hand delivery was done and dusted and no-one ever argued ![]()
EDIT: Incidentally, at the Mairie this morning, a pal waved their uncompleted-Declaration at me and asked if I’d done mine…
so even some French can leave things to almost the last minute
we both agreed that the date stamp on the envelope would be sufficient. (Poor soul is too busy to travel to the Tax office at the moment)
I visited the tax office this morning so they could check I’d completed the forms properly. I fell short of a gold star because I hadn’t included a justification de domicile.
is this because it’s your first Declaration???
