Hi , does anyone know if you need to sleeve 25mm water pipe in France with plastic liners ? All of the plastic 25mm Interplast Plastic fitting in Screwfix France and Bricodepot do not show liners for MDPE pipe as we would use in the UK with Plasson fixings for example ? Many thanks
Welcome.
Are you saying that Screwfix and BD list MDPE pipe? I am surprised.
Water delivery in France is superior to what you might be used to and HDPE is (I thought) used exclusively. Maybe medium density is creeping in from China to satisfy the insatiable demand for cheapness, in which case, anyone stocking the stuff will also provide sleeves.
If you are doing anything serious, I would urge you to use quality HDPE where you will not need sleeves.
I dont know about screwfix, but AFAIK 25 mm mains pipe is only available in HD from Bricodepot.
Hi Adam, thanks for the reply. Screwfix has Pronorm MDPE and Brico has Interplast HDPE. So I presume that the thicker wall on HDPE that takes16 bar of pressure, removes the need to use a plastic liner ?
Thanks Mark, do you know if you need a plastic liner or not with this HDPE pipe ?
It’s not “needed” but it wouldn’t hurt to put it in a brightly coloured liner
Suddenly the terminology has changed! By liner do you mean sleeve inserts? If so, no HDPE does not need sleeves - correction, quality HDPE does not need anything. Some of the cheaper stuff is imo very suspect though.
Thanks Adam for clarifying this . The sleeve inserts I referred to are as per the image . The reason for asking is , I was presented with a underground metal work piece of art with traditional above ground fixings and wanted to change over to plastic . I dont know if the existing piping is HDPE as it was installed over 10 years ago, but if the pipe had been put inside a brightly coloured liner , I could easily have pulled it out and replaced it with HDPE. Thanks for taking the time to reply.
Ah! With you now. Conduit.
France has been using HDPE for many years, so the chances are you have HDPE. Does your pipe have a blue stripe running lengthwise? If so, it is HDPE good for drinking water.
Quality HDPE is pretty well indestructable and often buried as is. However in a clay environment maybe on a sand bed is better, it will difficult to pull this pipe through conduit unless the conduit has a large diameter. If you do use a conduit, then please use a blue colour and not red, yellow or green.
