A Beloved Car And Its Destiny

It is odd, but it does seem to be the case that a shared car is deemed to be less at risk.

Presumably there’s some actuarial evidence for it that they are using to make that assessment.

Just received my renewal quote and will see what happens when I put my OH on the policy, see if I can do that this afternoon.

I think it’s because women have lower cost overall of claims. So if a woman theoretically may drive the car sometimes then you, the higher risk to them, won’t be driving at those times.

Also similar for adding younger people around late twenties onwards depending.

Interrstingly I thought the law changed very few years ago in the UK so pricing quoted must not distinguish between male and female* - bonkers if you ask me given men are statistically higher risk.

If you look hard, though, it seems these policy changes are a hidden way of effectively bringing back that discrimination.

*Moneysavingexpert had a lot of coverage when that changed.

Forgot to update this thread, added OH and premium reduced by another £15!

Got a letter today from the Prefecture to say that nowadays this sort of thing is done at ANTS and enclosing the document that Mario filled in for me to send. I told him so, so took it round there today, he read it, showed me his brand new carte grise with a new reg. number and just said ‘poubelle’.

I won’t do that, I am English and don’t poke a French ants’ nest, so I will simply file it.

I am pleased with the change of reg. no. though. A few years back Mario borrowed my trailer and although I reminded him to put his own reg. plate on the back, he didn’t and ruefully admitted that he got flashed.

I got the infringement notice and took it round for him to accept the punishment. So I was a little purturbed that he seemed unaware of ANTS and that if he transgressed again I would have to go through it all again. But this change of plate makes me rest easy.

Is it a new thing though, when I bought the Partner I voluntarily changed the plates, but not the number, because it had a Parisien logo and I was told that such cars got damaged in France Profonde.

I did that with my current van as I like to blend in…

I now use one of the old 91 plates on the trailer.
