I completed my comparative appraisals of various battery powered mowers and, having decided, set about buying it off Amazon, hundreds cheaper than on the street.
Went through the verification process but then the bank wanted a pin number which I entered. Then it wanted a number sent on my phone, did that too. Then it wanted a vocal code which is sometimes needed, but nowhere to put it. All there was was a button marked ‘vocalisation’ which I assumed was the need for my voice telling them something, but all was silent until after a minute or so, a snatch of a word, no more, was heard as if someone had given an instruction which hadn’t worked.
As a result Amazon had to cancel the order until I sorted the payment out.
Never had such a thing before, has anybody else?
It sounds very odd to me. Especially the demand for the pin number. What is the verification required by Amazon? They normally process a purchase within a few seconds after checking with the bank that all is in order.
Banks sometimes send you a pin which you have to enter to prove it’s you making the online purchase. No idea about the vocalisation unless it’s a way for sight-impaired people to do the same thing.
Yes I have one of those for all purchases over €50 online anywhere. They contact you via Amazon at the time the transaction has been made, to put your code in the box they send via Amazon. It’s a safeguard so that even fifty euros is not a huge loss in the grand scheme of things. Never ever had or recently been asked for anything vocal anywhere.
Very strange I’ll try again later, after the effects of the kir at the salle des fete has worn off.

It’s easy if you have a smartphone
How? It has a space which isn’t there and a button that doesn’t work? I think I’ll pass.
Problem solved, this evening I had another go, it must have been a glitch in the banking site because this time, as well as requesting the texted number, it produced a line of squares into which I could put my pin number. That wasn’t there before so I couldn’t. I steered well clear of the mysterious vocalisation link and it all went through in an instant

All very strange to me. If I make an Amazon purchase all I get is we are checking with your bank, this may take a few seconds and then a thank you for the order.

Yes, me too, normally, it is the first time this has happened.
David, there is a difference between PIN , security number on the back of a bank card and a check code sent by phone. Your card PIN should remain personal and never disclosed.

I have to use it every time I log in to La Poste Banque. Same with Yorks Bank.
