I had my 50th in Feb! But thank you for saying ![]()
And I was christened somewhere in southern England in the midst of the June heatwave!
For the record I sat my O-levels in the heat of that year ![]()

Very many congratulations to you both.
I don’t remember much about '76 tbh… I was only 1 ![]()
Congratulations
We’re only in the 40’s, it just feels longer.
Many thanks for all your good wishes.
We spent our anniversary at Whitby on the north Yorkshire coast. The fishing town never fails to impress, sat in its beautiful surroundings.
What better aniversary meal than fish and chips at the famous Magpie Cafe taking in the wonderful view of the harbour.
Congratulations to you both @JohnBoy !
I spent the summer of '76 (my gap year) packing books for export in the basement of Foyle’s bookshop on Charing Cross Road!
It was probably the coolest place in the building, to be honest. But commuting in and out of London on Southern Region’s old slam-door trains, especially in a smoking compartment, (remember those?) was not fun!
Congratulations JB!
1976 was a special year: we too were married 50 years ago last month. we celebrated our Golden Anniversary with all of our family in a local restaurant. We went on our honeymoon to Majorca at the height of the heat and being young and naive, we quickly became badly sunburnt. We spent the next few days not daring to be too close or touch each other. We are somewhat older and wiser now.
We were in our 7th year and our daughter was born on 2nd July so we have just celebrated her 50th. Going from the canicule here to Lochinver in the North West of Scotland with maxima of 15c was a bit challenging
My only strong memory of the long, hot summer was swimming in the Thames by Temple Island during Henley Royal Regatta. I was 9th man in the school eight for the Princess Elizabeth Cup, so rowed every training outing while various crew members went back to school to sit O and A-level exams. So while the racing was on I just enjoyed swimming in the relatively cool water.
