A new adventure

Oh she knows all about our annual tax row. :joy: My husband gets infuriated when I still talk about “the pink form”. :open_mouth:

Cap’nE - what on earth are you on about ? !! Think you’re replying on wrong post somehow. As for the ‘rat run’ phrase - someone used it as an example of bad use of english language; wasn’t me made comment; my post was just trying to defend use of rat run’ as a newspaper’s or media’s use of well-understood common phrase, and a type of shorthand.
But you’ve entered the roundabout going the wrong way - was another post !!

They certainly are and I don’t think you get any allowances either.

Thanks for confirming it for me Tim and no, I don’t think there’s any allowance.

Mea maxima culpa, to be sure.

Speaking of which, I saw a vid on YT of RTAs. It gave pause for thought that one might end up brown bread due to the towering stupidity of A.N. Other.

I particularly sympathised with the patient in an ambulance that ran a red light, was T-boned by someone crossing on their green - quite legit - and the ambulance doing two barrel rolls and ending up inverted.

UK tax residence is very individual fact specific. For those wondering if they will be resident or non resident on their return to the UK, try HMRCs residence checker tool..

I would recommend contacting HMRC shortly after arrival in particular IF (for example) you have pensions that have had NT PAYE codes (no tax) applying to them previously, to avoid substantial underpayments arising..

That is exactly one of the things we are trying to avoid. I will start by contacting my LGPS providers and see what they say.

I’m curious about these kinds of companies.

I’ve heard stories about “we buy any car” (in the UK, I’m sure you’ve heard of them) quoting an attractive price, but then offering lower when they inspect the car. This would make me wary.

I’d be interested in whether or not vendez votre voiture messed you around in this respect.

I know you said it went well, but were they honest or did they adjust the final amount?

Thanks and I wish you well in moving into you new home ASAP! Very excited to hear how your new adventure unfolds.

FWIW I think such companies are to be treated as a last resort if you are in a hurry to be rid of a car, and you should expect a low price being offered. It’s the nature of the beast.

Useful though if you do want to just get shot of it quickly and it’s not a vehicle of any great value.

I’ve sold 2 cars to We Buy Any Car and it’s not too bad so long as you’re honest in the description. They will go over the car with a fine tooth comb and, for the first car, they spotted blemishes that I hadn’t seen and proposed a lower price. However, they fairly quickly came back up to the original price without too much argument.

The second time was a bit more unusual. I had been scrupulously honest in the description but he basically ignored the quote that I had, inspected the car afresh, and offered me a higher price. I bit his hand off. To their credit, I took the car back to the UK from France, and no one would touch it because it had no UK history, but WBAC took it without a quibble.

Obviously I can counter that with a friend’s dealing with said company. He was selling a car and physically removed the chap from his property for being or trying to bully him into accepting the daft price he was offering. The car was immaculate having previously been owned by a solicitor and had a complete dossier of history from new.

I saw that Cazoo have gone bust owing around ÂŁ73 million I think it was. Always suspicious of these suddenly appearing companies with massive adverts and team sponsorship who do not have a history of steady growth in the traditional way.

Venture capitalism at its finest.

That was in 2024, the business and name was bought from the administrators and rebranded, they have a sponsorship deal with Brentford FC.

Win big with Cazoo’s Miles of Prizes!

Interestingly, the original company was registered in the Cayman Islands!

Should have been called “Cayzoo” then.

A cunning place to stash your ill-gotten profits of course.

I had an “offshore bank account” in Turks & Caicos when I lived there - I kept it open for a while when I came back to the UK, with a few hundred dollars in it, thinking it would be useful for return visits.

Monthly bank charges soon dwindled it away to almost nothing though, so i closed it. I still have my cheque book somewhere.

I don’t see the link

Condition is everything when they start arguing of price.

No it’s the link between being owned by a solicitor and being immaculate I don’t get.

Obviously condition affects price!

The dossier of information on servicing was as a solicitor very indepth, lengths most folk do not go into.
