I’m looking at a lovely house in Magrie, just outside of Limoux. It looks to be a nice small village accessible to the transports and all available in Limoux, but still with a nice vibe. But I don’t see any restaurants or businesses at all in the village. Anyone in the region? Thoughts on the area?
Google is your friend here
Don’t know how up to date, but you can also use streetview to see what’s there (or was there when the camera car came by).
I do not know Magrie I lived in Campagne sur Aude just down the road from Limoux for 6 years It is an interesting area but very poor and hot I gave up trying to plant a lawn after4 years and went back to the west coast of France I must add for me it was a nightmare finding a doctor the nearest was Axat a 50 minute drive through a rock strewn pass
Bit harsh. Also, 50 minutes on a pushbike maybe. Not in a car.
A lot was through tunnels in winter with 5 foot icicles hanging over head after dark give it a try Quillan to Axat
Yes, I’ve done that drive several times in winter. I quite like the mountain hugging drive with the overhangs and the river on the other side. It’s not that long though.
OH hard man Try cycling it when you are ill and over70 in the dark with your wife on the back
Hard man ? I wouldn’t do it on a bike, that’s just nuts given the narrow road with blind bends and locals going way too fast. Not a good way to die.
It is a beautiful stretch of road though.
Yes, that was my first step. No restaurants at all are visible on Google Maps in the village. I just wondered if anyone was able to share local info or thoughts on the area and/or Limoux itself. thanks.
At about 3km from Limoux, quite a small town it seems, you’re within walking distance. Normally I’d avoid what might be a dormitory town, but you say there’s a nice vibe.
I don’t know anything aboutthe place, but these links may be useful if your researching from afar:
I don’t remember there being much around there outside of Limoux, but then maybe we didn’t explore all the little gems that might be there (or maybe there aren’t any).
If restaurants are your criteria, then Limoux et environs is not the best place for you! Plenty of basic restaurants in Limoux and one or two specialise, but again, nothing to write home about.
I agree. There used to be a really good vegetarian restaurant in Limoux, but that is no more. The only decent restaurant left is l’Odalisque and that’s quite expensive.
I visit Limoux and the area quite often. It’s an ok place to visit but not somewhere I would chose to live. I find the area quite run down lacking prosperity and much prefer Carcassonne to the north, or Albi and Castres a bit further away. Castres is not bad but the cool wind can be annoying.
