Ann Widdecombe death could be suspicious

This sounds awful.

You’re no Mystic Meg. Though he’s been remarkably restrained just keeping it to his “I need security” line

If you stir up a wasps nest of hate, expect to get stung but don’t gripe about it until the end of time.

Looks like her house was quite isolated and very large especially for one person but that was her right to do so. I certainly would not like to live alone and not close to neighbours enough to call out, its far too dangerous these days with all the nutters that are about or being let out of jail early to commit crimes again. It may have been opportunist or someone with a grudge locally, expect they will find out eventually and even though I did not like her, I would not wish that sort of harm on her or anyone else especially at that age too when recovery is all too often not possible

Never agreed with her politics but she was “old school” and entered Westminster to serve rather than as a career choice, very sad to have a colourful life cut short in this way.

The hunt for her killer goes on, the 26 year old has been released without charge.

He’s adept at making it about himself.

I wish the police luck, I’m sure they’re doing everything they can.

I’m hoping that there were security cameras at the property that might help.

Like others I was not a fan of Ann Widdecombe politically, but I agree 100% it was a horrible way to die and I wouldn’t wish that on anybody.

We can’t know the reason for the attack until the culprit is caught, but I hope it was not politically motivated.

Doubt it. My bet is burglary and drugs.

Another arrest, reportedly involving counter-terrorism police in South Yorks.

This time, no mention of the suspect being white.

Both the beeb and Gardi, are reporting him as white, British national.

I put the BBC news on yesterday and all I saw were policemen just standing around their vehicles looking like spare parts. Seemed to be a lot of them too.

There can be a lot of that in policing, as I imagine our former blue members can confirm. They’re there by order of their superiors, of course.

I believe they do that with major crime scenes to keep out ghoulish onlookers or souvenir hunters who not only have no business being there but who may inadvertently destroy evidence.

I agree though it does give the impression they are doing nothing.

A repeated comment in the tributes to Anne Widdecombe is that she would give you a straight answer, no messing about.

Politics is poorer when fewer and fewer politicians respect the electorate like that.

this BBC link gives a detailed timeline of how events/investigation unfolded…

You mean that our Nige would miss an opportunity for self promotion?

Cynical? Moi?

Channel 4 news told me (and many others I presume) that Farage did get up to Farage-like tricks yesterday - and then promptly said ‘but we will not repeat what he said’. Really rather annoying! I mean I know we’re not supposed to like tittle-tattle, nor more seriously propogating harmful untruths, but I would have liked to have known what it was that he said. Not enough to search it mind, nor am I asking. I can well guess.

The always excellent Karl Turner described Widdecombe as “the Dennis Skinner of the Right” when interviewed on LBC, which is a great compliment, I think.
