I think it’s easier for a lawyer to “lead” a witness, old Bill or not, to avoid matters which are immaterial to the evidence. I have never heard anyone say “I was proceeding in a northerly direction”.

That’s because you were based at John O’Groats.

Aren’t they supposed to proceed in a westerly or whatever direction, rather than walk?
edited to apologise because I’m a cretin who didn’t read what was under my nose and was repetitious.

South Mimms was the most northerly for the likes of me.

In practice, the prosecution and defence agree undisputed evidence; whoever calls the witness reads the early part of a witness’s statement until arriving at the contentious part, which is then dealt with by open questions.

You’ve obviously spent more time in court than me:joy:

Your statements must have been crafted with great care!

Indeed!

Ah yes, the jewel in the crown of south Hertfordshire. I have spent many happy hours at the M25 services there - on the way to somewhere else.

I used the word « rude » about him but

the two words used to describe AW are true. I concede that I have not seen/heard any part of the broadcast, merely repeating hearsay.

Could this be a generational thing? I was brought up to tell the truth and shame the devil. Or perhaps octogenarians have thicker skin.
