Annoying Impot errors

Just as one thing is resolved, along comes another! This year Impots failed to deduct the age-related discount and now I’ve received a demand for Taxe d’Habitation. I live here permanently and haven’t left the country in five years. In fact, I’ve barely left the town I live in as I don’t drive. Has anyone else received a Taxe d’Habitation demand in error? I’ve messaged them but will I have to provide evidence? I’m envisaging the nightmare of have to print off five years worth of bills, etc. etc.

Are you near to a tax office? I’ve been to the one in Narbonne quite a few times and they’ve been very helpful, including on local taxes.

Unfortunately, I don’t drive and have a health issue. I’ve messaged them and will visit France Services when they have a session in the village later this week. It’s just so annoying that they’ve made two errors in quick succession when they’ve not made any in five years.

If you’ve been living in the village for 5 years you will be well known at your Mairie, so they might be able to help you cut through the mire :crossed_fingers:

No, you should have filed five years of tax returns so they will see you have been here for the period you stated and bills not necessary to proove it. My son got caught out the other year with the deduction from salary scheme by the impôts and had to find over €2000 to pay it off immediately, that was a mistake on the impôts side who put in the wrong figures but unfortunately if you don’t cough up, they start adding interest.

Double check that your house is listed correctly on your biens immobilier page, and wait for a response to your message. It will be rectified in due course so don’t worry.

I would hold off asking France service until you have a reply, and give impôts a chance to rectify first.

When I submitted the biens immobilier details after the two year exemption period, it had garage listed in the details already, not by me, which I could not erase nor rectify on line. I wrote a letter to the impôts and all they have to do is look on google street to see there is no garage and told the local mairie who said it might or might not reduce my foncières, they had no idea. I still try to rectify the detail online every so often but the page does not allow it.

I’ve filled in my tax returns every year so there shouldn’t be this problem. Good point though - they only have to look at these (and the somewhat excessive water bill I received this morning!).

Possibly, but we’ve had three maires in the past five years …

If you have any outside taps, check they are not dripping, even a little drip adds up as I found out to the tune of €500 some years back

 Good grief.. what are you doing to ‘em??

A Maire’s mandate normally lasts for 6 years!

The first one, a lovely lady, died unexpectedly and her replacement was only temporary.
