This is to raise funds to pay for road-maintenance !
Lots of articles in the Press and TV and FBook (I think)…
Costs somewhere between 90€ and 250€ per year… although there will be a special Visitor one for a short-term-use… (???)
TFI Info: "Il sera également possible d’acheter une vignette pour 24 heures, 10 jours, un ou deux mois. "
Just wonder how long before we get clobbered again. Always used to have to buy them from the boulangerie and you would see windscreens covered in them going back years. They stopped it because it cost more to collect but seeing governments are trying to screw the public for what they can these days, it won’t have gone unnoticed what Belgium are doing and of course, look at how big some of the cars on the roads are these days too
No panic Stella, Belgium already has annual road tax for cars registered there. They are just trying to screw the foreigners, which our toll system already does, and why not
IMO there is no way any politician (apart from one with a death wish) will float bringing back the vignette, what a formula to piss of all of the people, all of the time (well, at least once a year).
Taxtaxtaxtax Western economies need to address the real issues of lack of productivity of people. The West is just eating its own flesh - taxing and over-bureaucrating small to medium businesses out of existence. And then there’s the question of who, from where, they let own the big businesses on which we depend currently allowing massive tax leakage.
Back in the very early 90s I was attending a two week exec education session in a very wonderful, comfortable but monastic like facility we had in La Hulpe. Albeit with a private bus into Brussels centre and home again every evening. We were spolit
To kick off week two we had to give a little presentation on our own country. The plonker from Belgium decided he’d showcase how the Flemish and Walloon factions got on so well. Fair enough, until he contrasted that to Northern Ireland, an obvious dig at me. He learnt a hard public lesson that day on how NI is part of the UK, not Ireland
Isn’t the difference that the Belgians are charging whether you use the autoroutes or not. You don’t pay in France if you don’t use them. Or have I misunderstood the Belgian law?
Belgium is a country that you transit to other EU member countries , so apart from going to Spa race track - it’s only logical to transit Belgium as quickly as as possible.
Jesus, if my Belgian/Irish SIL read that For him the UK is only a country (and a half - Wales) that you transit through on the way to Ireland Next you’ll be saying it’s just a fabricated buffer to avoid Franco-German wars.
The issue is that French tolls are pay as you go, very fair. The Swiss, Austrian and now Belgian systems are just a tax on foreigners.
(BTW, on a more serious note, if you believe that of Belgium you are really missing out )
