Antai scam email

Just went on email page and found one from Antai.gouv.fr. However there was a big red exclaimation mark next to it and reading online, it seems it must be followed by pas-de-reponse etc. I did not open it knowing that its a scam as the car has not been out on the road for over 7 weeks but just to warn folks its doing the rounds. I did not know what Antai was to be honest until I googled it and saw the warnings.

Yes it arrived here too, I opened it but clicked on nothing. It alleged that I had failed to pay a parking fine and if I did not pay €35 immediately I would be fined a further €135. Needless to say it went straight into the bin.

Sadly, due to my 80,000 kms/year habit until covid, I am well versed in the way the government wants to extract money from me, and this is not the way they do it.

Was the link to antai.gouv.fr masking a different address?

https://www.antai.gouv.fr is the correct address of the genuine government site for dealing with motoring fines etc.

According to the proper website ANTAI emails always come from nepasrepondre_noreply@antai.fr and they don’t send SMS messages.

I note that one can choose NOT to open/click on anything… or even ignore the email altogether… (safer to do that I would think)… and then a Paper Document will arrive via LaPoste in the letterbox 7 days later.

Having received what seem to be genuine emails and SMS which talk about amendes etc etc… and NEVER having received a Paper Document… it’s clear that these Scams abound and best (in my view) just to delete any email/SMS asap…

Yes, paper is still king where scams are concerned, besides sending these emails out does not mean people will automatically see them and for those not on the internet, they wouldn’t know anything about it at all until a paper demand arrived but saying that, there are false ones of those too! Its getting to be a minefield now with all these scams doing the rounds

I haven’t had a speeding ticket in a decade of more but they used to come in the post.

The one I got came to an old, and nowadays unused, email address. But the clincher was I haven’t been parked on a public road for many months. Almost all my journeys are local these days end they, as well as the exceptions,to the rule, involve parking on private premises.

If a paper one were to follow, I look forward to seeing where I was supposed to have been.
