“Two Iranian men have appeared in court charged with terror offences over an alleged plot to target the Jewish community in Manchester with a homemade bomb.
Rahman Salehi, 34, of Salford, and Salam Ahmadyan, 36, from Liverpool, were accused at Westminster Magistrates’ Court of preparing to commit an act of terrorism or assisting another to commit an act of terrorism on or before 20 September.
One of the buildings they are alleged to have carried out reconnaissance at is the Heaton Park synagogue which was attacked on 2 October 2025.
Both men, who had arrived in the UK by small boat, were arrested in Manchester’s Northern Quarter on the eve of Yom Kippur - the holiest day in the Jewish calendar.”
Who knew that not controlling your borders would would allow enemy nations to ship in (pun intended) covert operatives?
Exactly.
With a bit of cash in a bank account it is easy to fly into the UK.
To arrive by small boat is more expensive, riskier, and fingerprints are taken when picked up.
That does mean that small boat migrants are not recruited after arrival, but any trained assets will not be coming in that way.
And now we learn that Lubna Speitan (it was her “Zionism is racism” motion) is a close friend of Minh Quang Pham, an al-Qaeda terrorist who plotted to bomb passengers landing at Heathrow from Israel. He was jailed in the US for a plot to detonate a backpack filled with shrapnel dipped in rat poison in the airport arrivals lounge.
.
She says she’s still his friend, and offered to testify on his behalf.
I voted for the Greens in the most recent local elections but simply despair at the party leadership, the party will now remain on the fringes of national politics having got so close to being relevant, they should focus on the biggest issue to affect us all rather than anything else.
As I understand it most of the MPs did not vote with the motion. And senior figures do not all agree with it.
Should the leadership have tried to ban such a motion and vote? Surely not.
Looks to me like some members (about 55%) are going further than more moderates and the leaders. It won’t be likely to appear in any manifesto I guess.
I was meaning more generally (and it may be that his particular brand of pro-Gaza eco-populism created a climate where motions like that could not only be conceived but could flourish). He seems curiously gaffe-prone, from his council tax affairs to his retweets.
I could not vote for the Greens, because of their policy on drugs, but I’d happily see them have an influence on climate politics.
Anyone who thinks “the Devil’s lettuce” isn’t a huge problem based on their experiences 40-50 years ago need to bear in mind that the genetically modified stuff in use these days has 4-5 times the THC of the gear you used to enjoy.
Look at what has happened in Portugal. Drug policy of Portugal - Wikipedia
It appears that since they decriminalised drugs, they have had fewer deaths.
It is counterintuitive, but there is evidence that the Green Policy might work.
The UK hasn’t done well in the past by sacking those who are experts in the field, but say things that ministers don’t like. (Prof David Nutt)
