ANTS process

Northern Ireland has something similar called NIDirect. It’s a sort of gateway to government services.

I have bought, sold and even re-registered old cars using ANTs without a problem. As a resident of another country, you are not entitled to register a car in France. This is also the case in most other countries. When laws are broken using a French registered vehicle, the authorities need to be able to trace the owner, hence the need to prove you live here and are not just visiting or just have a second home here. All official applications in England for Vehicle registration, insurance driving licence etc start with certain provisos, one being that you are a UK resident. The difference in England is they don’t ask you to prove it, they just take you on trust- hence a lot of fraud is perpertrated.

That shook me a bit when I read it! I can’t use FranceConnect (FC) according to France Services who looked into it for me, as I’m not registered in Assurance Maladie (being privately insured), and do not have a social security number.Apparently the latter really underpins/drives FC according to France Services…I obviously have a tax number, having been here for several years, but that is seemingly insufficient. I tried other gateway routes with no success.

I had (fortunately) created an account with ANTS/France Titres, despite not being able to use FC (though I gather there are parts of ANTS site that do specifically require FC?). Thanks to Kim’s fantastic ‘Driving in France - French license application’ FB group’ and its outstanding guides, I am about to start my application to exchange my UK driving licence for a French one.
I was quite worried this morning, after reading your post, so as a test, I went into my ANTS account via my phone, and it said access to the driving license exchange part of ANTS was not authorised. I had visions of not being able to swap my license. Fortunately it appears that provided you use a laptop etc ANTS lets you proceed with the exchange, but not seemingly if you use a phone. I had always intended to use the laptop for the actual application. Happy to stand corrected by those more knowledgeable.

I don’t use FranceConnect now to get into anything as I prefer to have individual accounts with each service. However, what I have done in the past where I don’t have an individual account is to use FranceConnect (usually using my tax number) to get into the service and then create an individual account once I’m in. That used to be possible with ANTS for example, but I don’t know if it still is.

Hey George

Looks like you’re sorted on this occasion, at least.

For the future, if you like, try asking the post office to help you create a FranceConnect account. I’ve no idea what they would require in terms of supporting documents, unfortunately. But La Poste is definitely one of the possible routes (like Ameli).

We created our FranceConnect years ago using our tax numbers and it was easy then. But no doubt everything’s changed.

I wonder does ANTS let you use an iPad.

La Poste - unfortunately - were incredibly unhelpful. They told me that I needed a CdS of 5 years and 1 day to qualify for an ID to be able to use France Connect. I have no idea where they got that one from. My CdS is exactly 5 years. So they rejected my application, despite a lengthy call, and rejected all requests to escalate the issue. I have survived so far without France Connect, but dread coming across some scenario where’s it’s essential.

Until recently I did everything on my iPad; ANTS, impots, CPAM…

Can’t do France Identité on an ipad :slightly_frowning_face:

Are you sure? When I did my tax returns on the iPad I used Safari not the Impots App because it gave me a lot more flexibility.

Actually that rings a bell.
Sorry, I should have remembered this. A Scottish colleague with a 5-year titre de séjour was desperate to get into FranceConnect to apply for French citizenship. She used to be able to get in with her tax number but she reckons someone in the tax office accidentally did something and that no longer works. So she went to the post office and they insisted her titre de séjour was short by one day.

So government can link your data of course.

Such as when you get the code needed in the UK for car hire, they want your National Insurance number. Why? National Insurance numbers hsve nothing to do eith driving.

It’s governments trying to catch up with Google in their data gathering.

Yes.

It works on mine.

@billybutcher Please can you hide the other one. :slightly_smiling_face:

I assume that you mean the one you deleted?

Ahhh, we’re talking about different things. I’m talking about France Identité, which is a digital identit (ie replaces physical driving licence), not France Connect which just authorises access to your driving licence account.

No. That is not France Connect its France Titres where you can access everything.bIt makes no difference to me anyway, if you read my first post I did say, before I got my MacBook I used my iPad for everything.

Thank you. It had some personal info on it. :slightly_smiling_face:

Ok, it’s the newer kid on the block. But still not the same as France Identité!
