Wasn’t even intending a joke….the sentence was in English, so referring to the English uses of these words!
For us swing only means one thing and it’s dancing. My pupil said " my grandparents are swingers, every week they go to the swing club" in English, meaning just dancing, and thought nothing of it because obviously it isn’t sniggerworthy if you don’t know what it can mean in English.
And when I told them they just said “oh but there’s a well-known club de libertins on the Bordeaux road outside Bergerac” so there you are…

Small French villages are reputedly hotbeds of “adult fun”. They keep it well hidden and I haven’t seen a trace of all this funny business in three years! I keep planning to ask the lady in the local shop where the action is, but luckily my French isn’t up to formulating such a carefully nuanced question.
