Visited 3 houses for rent yesterday. First one was the best⊠the other two were in great locations but wouldnât be big enough for my partnerâs shoes and handbags our stuff. Just had confirmation that our dossier has been accepted 
The current tenants wanted to leave as early as possible, so looks like weâll be getting the keys in about 10 daysâ time. Which is great as weâve paid for the Airbnb until end of March, so can take our time moving the stuff thatâs currently in shipping containers and unboxing it, but sleeping in the Airbnb if necessary.
Anyone free in a couple of weeksâ time to help carry some old, heavy wardrobesâŠ?

Finally had some time to go through the list of suggested fencers to enclose my new piece of forested land yesterday.
The first one arrived by arrangement in the afternoon, dead on time at 2. The reason for that soon became clear, he detected my accent and then continued to speak in perfect English. He is Dutch.
We walked the assumed perimiter (still waiting for the geomet expert) and once the dimensions were agreed, moved to my wishes for the job. It will be by what he calls sheep fencing and I call stock fencing. That is metal squares soldered at every joint and definitely not the useless chainlink rubbish that I, in my ignorance, erected first time around. It will also be finished at the bottom by single tightened wires to prevent dogs pushing outwards to escape underneath. Posts will be exactly as the ones I already have, still firm after 30 odd years, wooden but not freshcut branches, placed in long steel cupped spikes driven into the ground, one and a half metres apart and 1.5 metres high.
As he will have to clear some underbrush along the path of the fence he then offered at a reasonable cost to clear all of the underbrush between the trees, something that I was not looking forward to doing. I was very impressed and pleased to receive his promised devis the same evening. I might later even get him to quote for improving my existing chain link fencing. It would be cheaper as there would be no need for extra posts or, indeed, removing the fence already in place.
The 2nd prospective fencer has promised to visit between 4 and 5pm on Tuesday to make his pitch for the job but my feeling at the moment is that he will have his work cut out to beat this chap. If it wasnât for him I would have been inclined to accept the first one straight away, I have a very good feeling about him, but it would be foolish not to at least consider an alternative bid.
For the information of anybody contemplating a similar project I can tell you that for about 80 metres of my very specific requirements, the devis has come in at a little over âŹ2,000.

I forgot to mention that we discussed the fate of the underbrush thus cleared and I thoroughly approve of his answer that it would be small enough to be left in place and trodden in, to the benefit of the whole forest. It would be a small job for me later, if necessary, to clear required paths with a rake and let nature take her course.
Also the devis includes one gate at the farthest corner so we can, if needed, continue our current walks out into the forest and field. No gate needed from our current garden into the new, I will simply cut a space in the best place and roll the fence back. This will have another advantage, as the dogs will no longer be able or required to pass by the swimming pond, whose present gates will remain in place, I can roll back the stock fence which I had to put there after 2 dogs had fallen into the pond and which had prevented me from removing leaves in the autumn from both sides. I have a long net pole but it is an increasingly difficult stretch to use it at the max.

Got an email from the bank today regarding their house insurance I have with them. Apparently as I have not claimed anything for three years, there will be no excess to be paid on any future claims. Something I suppose.

FĂȘte de GrandmĂšre today so a visit from the little ones with a painting adorned by their finger prints onto a canvas so I canhang it up. The almost two year old came with her new handbag which contained copies of everything a grown up woman would carry plus the wallet had hundreds of euros in notes that at a glance were extremely like the real thing until I spotted bank of princess on them.

Today was the first day I am eligible to submit my TS visa request to France - I did, and it went perfectly. Now on to my visa appointment in Houston March 18.

Spent the last few days enjoying the warm of the sun in Spain starting out with celebrating my wifeâs 70th. We are the same age for just 2 weeks and today while passing through Barcelona we met up with family for an impromptu lunch for my 71st.
France and home now beckons.
