We have electricity in our Normandy house, after only 5 days without! And have had call from insurance assessor so that is also progressing. We may not actually make a claim if we can repair any damage ourselves, but we logged one just in case.

BBC news London tonight, said that today was ‘national pothole day’

A recent interview with Armando Luccini, R4 asked if he would now think of another series of The Thick of It, to which he replied, no - it ceases to be funny when it is real

Well we have concrete confirmation that the flu jab is working. Poor little two year old granddaughter been really poorly for a week now with the doctor no idea what’s wrong and said it was just a crèche bug. Yesterday after getting an emergency appointment with the village paediatrician, she confirmed it was Flu A & Flu B viruses together and a jolly good thing all the adult family has been vaccinated before xmas which shows it works or we would all have gone down with it too.

I am sorry that your granddaughter has been poorly with the ‘flu.

I avoid large gatherings, especially in winter and had to miss the Meilleurs Voeuxs for my friend who 8s retiring as Madame le Maire.

Our next door neighbour, who is a fit forty year old went and caught it.

We are both vaccinated against flu and Covid.

Good news. This is one thing that “bugs” me on Britline - however when you ring them up they are pretty good at sorting stuff.

Today we signed the acte de vente at the notary’s office and got the keys to our new forever home

Just got to move all our stuff over from the house we’ve been renting now

Yes, it’s horrible seeing a little girl just wanting to be sleepy all the time when she is normally so energetic. At least mum was given a sick note for work so she can stay home today and look after her even though I had already volunteered. In the local press today it says it is the peak now for small children under 5 catching it and her five year old brother has not been ill so his immune system must be working.

That’s really good news Gareth! So pleased for you and now you can do whatever you want with it

Good news of a sort. After a diabolical couple of weeks, some of which is still ongoing, the delightful Enedis chaps have finally found the cause of yesterday’s rather prolonged power cut and it’s nothing to do with our little corner. Trees plus winds have broken one core in a big cable over the hill causing a short circuit and it happens to be the one carrying our phase of current. Last night he temporarily attached us to the same phase as the neighbours and all is well (and we got to our friends’ dinner party only an hour late!) They’ll have to clear the trees and take down the cable for a repair and will have to be scheduled for a complete day sometime soon, but they’ll let us know,

Now I’ve just got to get through the ghastly diet then colonoscopy, get my car back from the bodywork people after the accident, finish the paperwork preparatory to the AGM next week where we’ll likely be closing down the association we run, then get through 2 separate opthtalmologue investigations and then, in exactly 10 days time, I can perhaps return to normal  (whatever that is   )

Good luck! I’m having mine done next Tuesday!

They have however given me some new-fangled stuff called Plenvu (instead of Moviprep) which requires a shorter period of starvation and evacuation… although I do have to follow a low fibre diet between now and Monday.

Meat is low fibre, rejoice

My leaflet says it has to be non-fatty meat, and minced if not naturally soft. So I plan on having something like shepherd’s pie tomorrow, or maybe eggs, and chicken on Sunday.

Interesting how completely different the French and English instructions are. Mine seems to be a grilled-meat fest but absolutely no veg of any sort.

Hope it goes well for you both, @AngelaR and @ChrisMann

Thank you Gareth!

Extra good news today is that I’ve got my car back  Rural Normandy without a car is tricky…
