Any cheerful news today? (Nothing negative please! 🙂) (Part 2)

Apologies, John, I thought your treatment meant you had a restricted diet but I must have been thinking of someone else.

My good news is that after 35 minutes on the phone to the CESU helpline, I finally got back into my account. When Firefox did its upgrade recently, it deleted all my cookies and when I asked for help signing in, Cesu were sending a code to an email account that I’m blocked from.

No, you’re right and it’s very dull due to my poor sense of smell and taste but that came from COVID rather than the current treatment

Had a nice time meeting up with @Wozza this morning. We talked everything from the maquis to radio controlled aircraft and prison cell construction.

I got spill chucked again. :stuck_out_tongue:

Spent a good hour with my son going through old boxes of his school stuff, board games that no one has played for many years, half-there jigsaws, broken toddler bits and pieces where the battery compartments have finally come apart - 8 bags of stuff for the bin and more room from emptying those plastic containers. End of the day, he will have to do it when I go and we have had a lot of that sort of clearing out since the in-laws died out end of the 80’s and left a huge mess. You keep stuff because it means something but end of the day, if it has not seen the light for five years or more, what is the point!

Today’s cheerful news..
sun is shining, laundry is on the line, had a long chat with daughter in UK, found my lost “essential” scarf (blue, white, red) for today’s march to the War Memorial … SdFete is all prepared and suddenly I’ve got time to breathe. :+1:

I’ll be down to the memorial as per usual shortly with the added bonus that I will see who our new Maire is. Someone told me that my mate was no longer Maire after the recent locals but I can’t see proof anywhere and haven’t seen him recently.

In France a man is judged by the size of his wood pile

Same here. I’m curious to see if the new Maire will continue playing the British national anthem as well as the French. I’ve no reason to think he won’t, just idle curiosity.

No agonies about that here, since the old bloke who turned up the volume on his recording of the French anthem in his DS19, died years ago, we just sing the chorus and one verse ourselves. I belt out the chorus lustily but am forced to do a John Redwood with the verse which I can never remember to order.

Well, the obviously cheerful news for me..
I do know who our new Maire is (and his team) as I followed the elections, and in the local press and attended the first Council Meeting (and peered closely and turned my hearing-aid up to full volume

Our last Maire retired and chose not to stand. He was/is a super person and his successor might find those shoes hard to fill.

The results of the elections were printed out and displayed in the Mairie information panel virtually as soon as the counting/declarations had been done on the night
(and it’s still there, though no idea how long it will stay there )

The good news is I now know, and even better news, though the last one was a friend, excellent and a neighbour, the new one is also a friend and an even closer neighbour, so good news all round. I was able to congratulate him and the old Maire at the same time in conversation making sure to say that the last one was equally excellante.

Then got into a deep conversation with another friend and neighbour during which we compared stents. He too has had two and is 4 years older than me, so very good news though I asked him to sign to guarantee at least 4 more years but he gracefully declined.

We had compared age related confusion and memory loss and it was amply demonstrated by yet another effusive bisou greeting by a young, and very pretty, lady who did the same last time. I know I know her but for the life of me can’t remember from where or when. Sorry, but not cheerful news when you can’t even remember the pretty ones then it does take the shine off somewhat. :slightly_frowning_face:

Perhaps I don’t know her and she is just stricken with my youthful handsome features.

Really cheerful news .. one of our extended family has been elected to the County Council in UK. The locals have voted for a newbie to politics, but someone they know to be honest, hardworking and intelligent, someone with their interests at heart… :+1:
not too many like that at County level, let alone higher up
Anyway, we’re so proud of this win… hurrah.

One of my business networking contacts has just become Mayor of Guildford - she was Deputy Mayor last year so has gained promotion to the Premier League.

She is a lovely lady and I am sure will do credit to the office.

Nice to know there are at least two “Goodies” in local government (or whatever it is called) :+1:

EDIT: @David_Spardo to confirm I’m talking about UK councils etc

On the other hand, I do know several French folk in politics and local government etc.. who are honest and hard working and intelligent (and longsuffering with daft English ladies)
