I feel the development of a cellulose alternative to ubiquitous plastic qualifies as good news

Kinari Might Be the Most Important Material You’ve Never Heard Of – Yanko Design

Apart from loving the aesthetic and potential I suppose we will only be rid of all the plastic if this kinari material proves economical to manufacture.

The cheerful news is Rain!
(well, sort of rain… and anything’s better than nuffink)

We had a smattering of mist/rain yesterday.. hardly enough to do more than wet the surfaces, but enough to bring some big snails out of hiding.

Three were marching along the low wall, heading for my pot plants… so I swiftly grabbed 'em and chucked 'em into the grass… then dashed to the car and headed off and away.

I’m sure I heard my pot plants cheering me for saving them from certain ā€œdeath by munchingsā€

Bioplastics are actually not new. You’ll find them in all sorts of applications and probably put lots into recycling as plastics without knowing. Ironically, moulded items were made of bioplastics before oil became the feedstock of choice for plastics.

Unfortunately, snails are like The Terminator :joy:

Oh I know that. In times gone by, they would climb the neighbour’s 2 metre wall, racing to get back onto my terrace after I’d chucked 'em up, up and away…

My hope yesterday was that they would be hungry enough to munch on the wild plants in the grass rather than on my potted darlings

We bought 3 Euphorbia Martinii Ascot Rainbow plants earlier in the year and nothing came of them. We wanted to replace them so we made some enquiries at a couple of garden centres and were told they won’t be available until later in the autumn.

But today we went to another garden centre and were lucky enough to buy 3 plants that are in excellent condition so we (Stuart) will be planting them later this evening. Here’s a stock photo of the plant.

Euphorbia’s are one of my favorites - but be very careful of the sap!

This morning we had an interesting and amusing hearing testing session.

I was told that if I opted for hearing aids, I would need choose between wearing them all the time and ā€˜la vie trappiste’; I replied that chez nous the latter would have some advantages.

Then Madame had her hearing tested and reluctantly realised that the reason I often need to repeat things is not due to ā€˜the way you speak’: instead, she needs a pair too. Very satisfying!

We also learned that her hearing loss was due to a sudden trauma and remembered that after our head-on car crash in 2024, she had suffered temporary deafness. Equally importantly, this had been recorded at the time by the ambulance crew and the police. Next next step is to have a word with our insurance company, as our previous injury compensation was for her fractured pelvis and convalescence…

So, always look on the bright side…

If you do go for hearing aids, I recommend choosing a rechargeable model with a blue tooth connection.

When I had my audio test, I had to press a button every time I heard a noise. I wasn’t hearing anything so I closed my eyes to concentrate. Soon I heard a noise and pressed the button. Then another one and pressed again getting the hang of it now.

After several pressings I became aware that the audio lady was laughing her head off.

She gently explained that I was pressing every time the church bell in the town chimed.

Do you have a euphorbia phobia?

Thanks for that Jane but we did already know about the sap being toxic. :pink_heart:

I had my post-radiotherapy follow up with the oncologue today and he’s happy with my PSA and general recovery and will follow up in a year.

I’m not totally convinced with waiting a year for another PSA test but we’ll see how that goes.

You might well find that your own Doc wants to keep an eye on the PSA in the meantime and will issue you with a scrip for the bloodtest as and when…

OH has scrips for blood tests for various things and our Doc will add a PSA check to the usual mix, from time to time.
.. even now, after all these years.

I’m sure you’re right but, if it comes to it, I’ll just pay for them myself as they’re not terribly expensive.

That’s excellent news John (even better than ā€œjustā€ cheerful) and I would suggest an indication how well you are doing that he’s prepared to wait a year.

I had a check-up after 6 months for my colon cancer. She is NOW prepared to let me wait a year until the next one.

And, of course, as @Stella has said, straight to your MT if any doubts and they will no doubt get you checked out That will keep them in the loop. No need for you to pay - I’m assuming your are ALD.

Yes to ALD. I guess I need to sort out a local MT as the current one is based in Paris.

The day has started well… very cheerful news is that we are both alive

and a neighbour has just handed me some dessert, still warm from her oven.
Le Pudding is delicious, dried fruits steeped in alcohol give it a wonderful kick and we shall enjoy eating that very soon…
