Any expats near Montbeliard area? How do you like it?

We’re moving to the Montbeliard area this summer and I was curious to know if there were any expats living there or in the surrounding areas. How do you like it?

Well… that doesn’t seem to bode so well for an expat community in the area haha

Perhaps there isn’t a Montbeliard presence on here?

Seems likely. How about the Doubs? Anyone?

Maybe there’s some immigrants instead

From what ive seen there are many immigrants there, yes. Montbeliard was named the culture capital of France for 2024.

Come and join us up the road a bit in Strasbourg.

We love Strasbourg!

There’s a map thingy somewhere on this forum that shows were people are based, if they have filled it in, or activated the option (I don’t remember now exactly how it works, sorry).

Must confess, I’d not heard of Montbeliard… but since Googling, am now better informed.

Not been to that very Eastern part of France as yet… although Mulhouse and the Schlumpf Collection is on our “must visit” list…

Why are you moving to Montbeliard… did you have any choice in the matter, or is it work related ??

I only know of the slightly smoked saucisses de Montbéliard which are very good in a potée.

And dairy cows, which are used to produce milk for that delicious cheese Reblochon (among others).

I’ve often thought as we drove past that it looked very good for mountain biking. All those woods. And hardly any humans.

Not work related, it was completely by choice. We thought the area was nice and the downtown was charming. We liked the location being right beside Switzerland and not too far from Germany. There’s a TGV station about 10 min drive north of town which can get us to Paris in 2 hours. The town seems to have everything including a large soccer/football stadium yet still isn’t big enough to have traffic jams (i think!). Then we found a home we fell in love with so we jumped on it.

We discovered those after we’d already committed – not sure how we had never heard of them before. Very good!

And Comté !

The nature aspect of the surrounding areas also drew us there. Lots of parks, forests, hills and waterfalls.

@movetoFrance - sounds like you are poised to become the forum’s Montbeliard expert!

Sounds freezing in winter. Though I am tempted by the geography.
