Anybody else got a wonky mouth?

Not sure what that has to do with a wonky mouth, Lily, but I liked it. :joy:

I have!! Long story starting with saliva gland cancer 22 years ago, the operation meant that a nerve linked to mouth workings had to be severed. The right side therefore has been a bit wonky for years.

More recently as a result of the radiotherapy I had at the time the right side of my jaw bone started to disintegrate (osteonecrosis) resulting in my chin moving to the right and more mouth deformation. I had a jaw reconstruction operation six months ago (they use the fibula bone, usually called the péroné in France, and in my case the pectoral muscle). However the right side of my’ lower lip is still slightly deformed and desensitised.

I can’t whistle either! But worse than that is the leaky lips meaning I dribble which is really embarrassing and annoying!

But the good news is you are still here, sounds like a rough ride but permanently carrying a serviette just in case. I left the dentist the other month and although only a temporary effect it is, or it feels a bit awkward. Hope the problems are behind you now.

Yes absolutely - even if I had known the effects in the future at the time I’d have still been happy to have the operations and radiotherapy ! Every day’s a bonus as they say !!

I’ll bet, can’t imagine all that happening. I have a slight dribble at the left corner, on the whistling side, but only if I wear the horrible great big upper set the dentist had made for me. I hate it and rarely have it in, but he says the dribbling will stop when I have the bottom set.. This month I think. Thing is I don’t need either. All I wanted was a replacement for the 3 front uppers that broke and fell out, 2 had been inserted and joined to one of my own by a metal strap, 20 years ago and totally forgotten. But he made me a great big plate that reaches back to the top of my throat and takes away most of the taste of food.
