Anyone else finding Wise slow?

…and if it wasn’t for EU regulations, I am sure Credit Agricole would charge people who use cards from other countries this 5 euros per ATM withdrawal on their machines, as well.

I wish there was something in French law that said a charge for a service should not exceed the marginal cost of providing it, by more than a fair amount. 5 euros flat rate is a ripoff for an ATM withdrawal

Unlikely though, La Poste is everywhere, CA isn’t.

Well, that’s worth knowing. However, I haven’t yet managed to find a machine in Spain that doesn’t charge!

With regard to Credit Agricole… I suspect the idea is to make sure their ATM has funds in it for their own customers… by “putting-off” others with their charges

If I recall correctly, many years ago, at Hypermarket shopping centres… there would be more than one ATM and each ATM said which cards could use it “for free”… if you used the wrong one, you ended up paying…

Abanca, Unicaja, Banca March and Deutsche were the only ones I previously knew of but I’m not sure that’s current. You have to be very careful with the DCC prompts too in Spain as they’re everywhere and almost always a terrible rate, if ever they ask you whether you want your banks rate or their rate, or it might be phrased “do you want to withdraw 20€ for £17.59 , or 20€ for 20€?’ always go for the rate of your bank/ the non GBP option. I’ve had this appear on the chip & pin screens in Auchan here and it was like £18.80 for 20€ but my Starling charges £17, not much for one transaction but it soon adds up and entirely unnecessary.

Ah, Stella, such a kind thought.

No, it’s a ripoff by Crédit Agricole.

Hmm… many years ago it was widely broadcast that one should use the ATM for one’s Bank (or the ATM with which one’s Bank has an agreement…
Otherwise one would be charged… That applied to all major banks as I recall…

When we were first visiting France, we sometimes fell foul of this rule… using the wrong ATM and being charged…
and, bearing in mind that CA doesn’t give money over the counter any more certainly not in the CA banks around me … as I previously said, it makes sense to dissuade them uvvers…
