I did, reluctantly, but it is a bit dreich here.
CH is barely working so I’ve just lit the woodburner. It’s cold!
Ditto. Went to fire up the CH and saw the expansion tank is acting up so played save and left it off. Insert rarely used these days but valued when it is. And, wouldn’t you know it, plumber’s on holiday until next week!
Our central heating is still on - but only in the mornings. The set temperature is not reached first thing. And we did have a few nights without the wood burner but it’s been on again for the past several evenings.
I expect we’ll all be moaning when it gets too hot later on in the year but I’m possibly going back into hibernation if it remains at these cool temperatures!
The ice saints will be over soon ![]()
Madame is looking forward to planting!
A fine word ![]()
My viticulture friends are hoping so ![]()
When we got home last Saturday it was bitterly cold in the house, and it’s taken several days to warm the place up. Today we had hail and 9’C during the day, which was even colder than in Cussy the previous week.
So yes, heating on for sure.
Just like last year for us. Off, on, off, on - there’s fresh snow back on the Sancy range, it had nearly all gone and now whiteout.
Its a bit chilly this morning as the tramontine is blowing down on us from the Canigou which is covered in fresh snow again but my house is so warm anyway I have never used any heating even in winter for more than one morning when I had the grandchildren who are used to a wood. burner that I can’t stand the heat from these days. I get the sun from midday until sunset with a 3m wide window that I have to shutter off some days it gets too warm but it does save so much money compared to living up north.
CH is on in the evenings with radiators turned up in lounge & kitchen
House is still remarkable warm, keeping at 16°C without the CH…
Bought tomato and pepper plants yesterday, warned not to plant until next week.
Ice Saints - kalte Sophie ? still outstanding….
I never really turn ours off. If it’s cold in the house it comes on automatically. I just leave it to the thermostat to sort it out. At present it is leaping into life each morning for an hour or so.
I don’t like being cold in the mornings, and that holds true whether it is January or June.
No! The price of fioul has rocketed so I am trying to eke whatever’s left in the tank. In fact if this keeps up, come October we’ll be sewing each other into a pair of long johns for the winter.
Its come down in price a little bit. There’s a garage not too far away that has it on pump, so I get 20 litres every time I pass.
Wood burner been used the last few evenings and CH comes on in the morning if house is below 18C
I know about the Eisheiligen from Germany. Do you have them in France too?
Yes, they are called les saints de glace and they are the same ones as the Esheiligen. I think we’re on kalte Sophie today, she isn’t always counted in France.
We count Mamert Pancrace and Servat, the Germans add Boniface and Sophie.
Edited to add I suppose it makes sense, it must generally be colder in Germany than in France.
The temperature gauge next to me shows that outside here in Wiltshire it’s 11.2. It’s mid May FFS!
We don’t have any central heating but the woodburner has been lit most evenings and even some afternoons…
And I just rented a house in Chars with fioul heat. Fingers crossed. I like it chilly, though- still trying to cool off from 60 years in Florida. I’m American so I guess it serves me right, eh?
