Thanks Peter, it’s very worrying. Bu tI actually have to go to France every year to look after the house and see relatives, so I feel very concerned. I also have British neighbour who just got their Cartes des Séjours.
Hi Jane, of course, I meant that. I really don’t see why UK citizens and EU citizens in Britain should be disadvantaged because governments want to ( or are forced to) change trade and immigration laws. A deal that helps expats everywhere seems sensible to me. I am equally concerned that the Front Nationale voters in my village will become antagonistic to people like me in future because I am a weird Brit/ Asian/ Aussie who doesn’t quite fit their idea of an “ideal” resident. I think the Mairie is pragmatic however. As long as I trim the hedges!. I have friends here and pay my rates (as we say in Oz).
Ok, I haven’t seen that yet!
I wish some members were silent.
I’m happy to be a silent member. There is a lot to read on the site and I’m quite happy to join in when I have a question or a valid response to make. A lot of the posts are about European problems that are a bit out of my comfort zone. I’m happy to read about the problems that people are going through as Brexit unfolds but can’t offer much on the subject so perhaps it’s best to stand back and keep silent.
Just to contradict myself, I’ve read that many people in the UK see the USA as Britain’s savior after they leave Europe. I can see large firms here being interested in the possibilities of additional orders from the UK but I cannot see any small businesses being interested in the inconvenience that foreign trade would involve. They sometimes have enough hassle dealing with customers from other states, let alone those across the pond who don’t use dollars and expect different standards.
There are many people that fear this and fear for the NHS. USA government seems to supporting Brexit for the commercial opportunity and a weaker EU.
You could argue that the EU doesn’t want the UK to leave for similar reasons.
It’s great to see some new posters here, an excellent idea @anon78757855
I’m glad you are happy, James… It does seem a shame not to attempt to get a few more to take part, you’ve got such a huge membership.
I have been a target of racist trolls in Australia and as a child growing up here I was targeted as a foreigner with “posh” English accent, a face that was too brown, and hair that was too long. It toughened me up, but yes, Jeanette, I try to dis-engage from that kind of personal attack.
I read a good article in The Guardian on-line published yesterday by George Monbiot, entitled “We must Limit
Wealth on Earth if we are to Survive” and thought of you. Basically it lends weight to your argument over the need for influencing billionaires. For example, imagine the fact of a Boeing 737 taking off with just one passenger, no doubt to visit a super yacht somewhere. The fuel used would apparently be sufficient for the needs of a small African town for one year. Having thought on the article, the question is surely how?
Hi all,
I too am one of those that loves to read the various postings as and when they come up. If I can’t make a positive contribution then I just feel that it’s better not not write anything at all.
Keep going though folks, those, like me, love it.
Kingsley Bosma?
If you don’t write anything, no one knows if you like the posts or not, although, you could, maybe, click the green heart, for posts you especially enjoy?

I will find the article and read it…
Why, Tim!? No one is obliged to read any posts at all!
There is a phrase (that supposedly comes from Yorkshire) which explains what I’m getting at.
I would though like more members to contribute, forums are not meant to be taken that seriously so people shouldn’t be afraid to express their opinions even if they’re wrong.
I beg to differ, Tim.
I don’t want more members to contribute; I think my contributions cater for all tastes and satisfy the community, who seem to appreciate them, sometimes with gusto.
“More is less”, a pearl of wisdom.
Further, I think the forum has to be taken seriously, and those that take it lightly or frivolously or who generate sardonic or ironic comments are skating on thin ice.
Those who make pathetically misplaced efforts to “hit the funny bone” of readers should IMO face the ultimate penalty, and PDQ.
Such puerility is misplaced, and miscreants should live in constant fear of being outed, trolled even ((albeit in a measured and constructive ‘dinner-party’ way). It’s the only way to keep the forum flibberty-jibbit free. Even if they’re right, especially if they’re right! ![]()
@tim17 …well…I want to know what the phrase is, now. Is it extreme word porn?

Thank you!!!
