Assistance for the less able - trains

Has anyone experience of assistance for people who are less able on the French rail system, both THV and local trains.

A family member would like to visit who has limited walking ability. Airports are very good at helping, but are the train operators here?

Any information greatly appreciated.

hope this is helpful for your family member

(google translation) ‘The station assistance service is a free service offered to people with disabilities and people with reduced mobility. At your departure station, this service allows you to be accompanied from the “Disabled Passenger Assistance” desk to your seat on the train. Upon arrival at your destination, you will be accompanied from your seat on the train to the station exit, your seat on the connecting train, the station taxi rank, or any other location of your choice within the station.’

It appears the passenger would need to show documented proof of their need for assistance, like a doctor’s certificate.

My friend has a walker and he asked for help from the SNCF. He did not say that he needed a doctor’s certificate, to receive help.
