Author John Williams?

John Williams? Ive never heard of him, so maybe others haven't as well. I'm intrigued and I want to buy his 1965 novel 'Stoner'. It only sold a couple of thousand so was withdrawn. The novel has now won Watersones book of the year award. In publishing it's a Lazarus. Poor old John didn't live to see the award. He died in 1994.

He had other books and poetry published and another novel, Augustus won him an award.

Not hard to find.

Didn't look at the link, but yes. We have the reissue of Stoner, published six or seven years ago by New York Review Books Classics. I bought it in NY from the news stand on the UN Plaza because it was a sunny day. I found it dead boring and depressing. My wife has it in Italian and doesn't think much of it either. I remember Augustus too, 1970s about the Roman emperor's life. I can't say I remember much else about it.
