Bandwagoners. Let's list those who have suddenly seen the light

I suspect we are going to see many flip from “we support Israel’s right to slaughter innocents” to “we have always defended the Palestinian people’s right to life and self determination” over the coming weeks.

It might be fun to document these hypocrites. I think a measure of hypocrisy might be comments pre Manu’s declaration, July 24, and post the declaration, when they suddenly saw it was gaining momentum.

First on my list is Starmer, dragged kicking and screaming (see his face at the press briefing ) by his cabinet and back benchers and cross party pressure to admit (after a hard days licking Trumps bottom) the undeniable.

Second, I see in another thread, the odious Majorie Taylor Green is swiftly out of the traps on the side of the angels.

Even Trump is back peddling and promising to have a “word” with Bibi.

Anybody spotted any others rewriting their history?

Personally, I’d prefer to welcome them to the fold, except the odious space laser woman. Better a late convert than nothing at all.

These are likely to be fake converts though.

The more I think about Starmer’s approach, the cleverer it seems. A month of pressure; the impression of a domino effect; doing it while Trump is here.

If others want to change their minds, like @JohnH I welcome them.

What do you mean by that? That they won’t follow through? That they’ll follow through but not believe in it?

I don’t disagree that they might be trying to get ahead of public opinion properly turning but I don’t really care so long as they get to the right outcome. At the end of the day, they’re politicians.

Bit of both.

If they achieve change I would agree.

But IMO there will be a lot of hot air and no useful action.

There must be accountability. IMO that’s the whole problem with politics today. People are never held to account for their actions and deeds, so they say and do whatever they want. Then, when “caught” just bluster and lie with no repercussions.

He was forced into it Porridge, just like all his other U turns. The man has no inbuilt moral compass, he just swings with the wind.

Much as I like John Crace, he got the final sentence of his last article (which I include for balance ) very wrong.

“A day when a world leader had shown some leadership. Who would have thought?”

The world leader that started this rolling was our very own Manu, Starmer was forced into it, days later.

More bandwagoneers, the too little too late brigade. Where were these people a year ago?

I hope nobody’s trampled in the rush to get on the right side of history.

Israel is taking no notice of the requirements for Hammas to lay down arms, release all hostages and take no part in any political outcome for Gaza.
I do not think that is pandering to Hammas at all.

Pondering this slightly more, I wonder if Starmer felt it key to get the orange man-baby on board before publicly taking the position. Without at least tacit approval, the UK’s declaration wouldn’t carry a huge amount of weight and could even trigger a tangerine tantrum which would be quite counter-productive.

None of us know and, while it’s easy for us to score goals from the grandstand, I suspect it’s a bit harder on the pitch.

Do you think he’s been studying Chamberlain, rather than Churchill, John?

You’ll need to explain that. What do you think he should have done, when and to what effect?

I don’t have the answer and wouldn’t like to be the person who needs to manage a way through this. As for the Churchill and Chamberlain comparison, I’d only suggest that Chamberlain was quite unfairly maligned and, generally, success or failure is only recognised in hindsight.

We like the idea of ‘our’ PM going out to do battle against a corrupt and callous president, but carefully chosen words may be more effective than a clever and forceful argument. I hope that he’s gently helping things to move behind the scenes through this. Wonder how we’d be reacting to Chamberlain’s peace in our time right now?

The last PM Britain had who studied Churchill was famous for 'spaffing up the wall '.

The pfennig has finally dropped in Germany. Maybe committing two genocides last century and then facilitating another this century isn’t a great demonstration of “lessons learnt”?

Zu wenig, zu spät, mein kleiner Freund. Deutschland steckt bis zum Hals in dieser Katastrophe.

Loads of Jewish groups climbing on the bandwagon now, too many to mention. Even some odious republicans as well…

Great stuff. Nobody wants to be caught out, apart from the Zionist extremists inside and outside Israle, when the Netanyhueu, Smotrich, Ben-Givr shit hits the fan.
