BBC Mirror and the Light

Over time I’ve watched Wolf Hall at least three times. I’m surprised not to see any mention of Mirror and the Light. Must have missed it. I’ve just finished the last episode. What a masterpiece of television drama.

Yes both the first series and the current series are excellent. Beautifully shot and well acted.

I think I did mention TMATL in a "what to watch on TV thread but it probably got buried.

I am only half way through the final episode so no spoilers please (though I do of course know how the plot turns out!!)

I said the same to some friends yesterday

Haven’t seen any of the series but I absolutely loved the books.

Well worth a look if you can get BBC1 via iPlayer or a VPN! Or the first series is available on DVD / BluRay for £10-£12 via Amazon UK which is a bargain.

I haven’t either and much as I love Mark Rylance I cannot get past the fact that he’s much too thin to be Thomas Cromwell.

He is however absolutely convincing in the role.
I enjoyed also the Dead Ringers sketches of him playing Cromwell.

He is absolutely convincing in every role. My favourite one is Rudolf Abel in Bridge of Spies.

Vladimir Putin is a better match.

Yes Mr Arnolfini does look quite Putiney!

I knew him quite well when I worked in the theatre. Humble man but quite strong views.

Loving the actor / artist is not necessarily loving the man.

Good point. But in the case of Mark I mean both. Don’t know him, but have a friend who does.

Especially about Shakespeare.

He is not the only one on the Shakespear conspiracy. Those that have studied and performed the plays realise a different writing style. Dr Farah Cooper etc.

Head of English at my school was a convinced Baconian.

Bit odd, that. He’s an Ac-Tor as a N.T.C. pal would say.

I have an Italian American friend who won’t watch ‘Insp Montalbano’ because of the Sicilian Italian accent/dialect.

A Spanish pal decided that ‘Peaky Blinders’ was his route to English …

Yes I love a Schwarzenegger film :face_with_hand_over_mouth:

I love Andrea Camilleri, another case where I have read the books but not seen the series. Mind you the bits of dialect aren’t any easier written than heard I suppose.

We watched the various incarnations with English subtitles. Italian friends tell us we were spared much bad language.
