BBC Reporter Simon McCoy's honest royal baby coverage!

@ Andrew - v funny!

I'm just hoping she gets her la la's out and breastfeeds in public whenever possible. Positive role model and all that. But sadly I'm probably right in thinking that won't happen :(

they're obviously very well screwed together, Lis, they made a baby...! :-O

Oh, Cate! From reading other postings by you, I more less fell in love with you, and now you've shattered my dreams! I would have never believed that you would be one that goes ga-ga over this sort of stuff!

I'm just waiting for Big Phil to croak it,now, so we can hear all the platitudes and kiss-arsing from the Plebes.

Any baby being born is "delightful news", but this kid won't go without. There'll be pensioners, people with no dosh, people on the dole, etc., all saving up to send the poor mite prezzies, as well as all the zillions his family hoard! I hope you'll try,Cate, to make amends and make me love you once again. XX

Strange how some how or other royalists take it with them when they move to another country. Some people believe in republicanism as the best form of electoral democracy. I have had enough years to think about that in this life and too close a contact with one of the royals to be any more sympathetic than I was (never) in the first place. As for jokes, they are allowed sourpusses.

wow - that was a lot of positive comments...funnily none of us chose to be born, that was made for us by our parents...and actually those two new parents seems to be pretty well screwed together, no more 'old' stiff upper British royal lip there...

@Shelley - just media hype really judging by the man-on-the-street's reaction. only a handfull of my 500 or so customers (tabac-presse) have said anything today and apart from the woman on the phone at the tax office, the rest have all been pretty negative...! :-O

I'm not one to pick a fight, and I'm only a a marginal fan of the royal family, but I'd bet Mr Brewer (i) has a chip on his shoulder and (ii) has little or no understanding of the history of the royal family and its finances and how they got to be in the current position.

Quite agree that the coverage has been a little OTT, but all the same it's a very happy event and good to see something on the news that doesn't involve vice, violence or other atrocities that humankind is so capable of. I'm not a royalist myself but I do think that it's an important event in historical terms and an interesting part of my (and my children's heritage). Interesting to see how obsessed many French are (and rest of world) - just demonstrates their jealousy I guess!

I'm very pleased for them too, Dave, a new baby is always something to celebrate but that's where it stops for me ;-)

1793 therapy, no cakes mentioned this time though.

Jonathan - unfortunately they will :-(

Well I for one am pleased. I will raise a glass at some point. Admittedley I raised more than a glass when my two were born. However Long Live the future King!.

  • Yet another privileged parasite joins the clan. Can't believe that the public are so gullible!
  • Another sponger born into a life of luxury and paid for by the British public despite being part of the worlds richest family!

tout à fait, Keith, vive la république ! Nice headline, Brian, sums it up a treat. Europe1, crap signal here Alexander, I tend to go for RMC les grandes gueules.

On the phone to the TVA lady this morning, I'd bumped into her yesterday on my usual monthly visit for timbres fiscaux and timbres amendes for the shop, she called today to discuss a TVA rebate, all very mundane stuff, but then as we were closing the conversation she suddenly added "et les nouvelles sont bonnes ; c'est un petit garçon !". Most of the conversations on the subject up until then had been with my usual customers buying their paper and reading the headline "c'est un garçon !" to which we both shrugged our shoulders and added "eh alors, qu'est-ce que ça va changer ?" or "comme si je m'en foutais". Would be interested to know just how divided the UK is over this...!

News headline: Woman has baby!

Another born millionaire without a finger raised. Not impressed!

Now I know why I came to live in France...off with their heads....Vive la Republique!
