Be careful not to bring home an immigrant

In that case, perhaps better to remain silent on the topic.

Labour do seem increasingly to be a more coherent Conservative party in the things they’ve done since taking power.

Yes it’s somewhat disappointing, especially in regards to the EU; I find their “no reversing Brexit” stance completely illogical.

Economically I think they have no room for manoeuvre given the past mismanagement plus the after-effects of Covid and the Ukraine war.

Where as their present Brexit stance makes sense right now to me - gently snuggle up with Europe without a rapid change - but I feel their approach to economics is much less reasonable and I remain highly suspicious of what they’re doing.

I was going to say something similar. Luckily you got in with a diplomatic reply first.

But wouldn’t that be your stance whatever?

I’m sure there are some here who feel that Britain needs to throw caution to the wind and run back to the EU begging forgiveness with tears and pleading. Or did you mean about economics - where everything is absolutely the fault of the last government and it’s always the first point made in every interview?

Just looked at some data for March 4-10 on small boat arrivals so far 1 497. Now who are supplying the boats and engines?

Probably because reversing Brexit is fantasy. I don’t like it much either but it’s reality. The only way back is a long process of proving ourselves reliable and it seems to me that the current security situation is helping that enormously though it will need to be sustained across a number of parliaments. Also, let’s not forget that any future EU membership is likely to look a lot different from the one we had and could well be a hard sell to the electorate.

I mean whatever they do will get criticised by you. Personally I’m glad to have got rid of the party that proved time and time again that they were not fit for government. It’s interesting at the moment getting daily updates from the Covid enquiry, it helps to remember the lies and cronyism that a huge part of the population was persuaded to believe to be normal.

Can you please tell me how a small boat gets permission to enter the U.K. before it arrives. I have crossed the Channel many times in small boats and not once did anybody on those boats ask permission before setting off. Crossing the Channel in a small boat is not illegal, organising crossings for people who are hoping to claim asylum or worse still enter Britain illegally is the illegal bit.

Yes isnt it.

I have no idea. I, too, have crossed the Channel in small boats twice: once in an old police launch and the second on an uncle’s sail / motor boat. Both times, we set off, landed, had a meal, and went back. Each time, no one had a passport, or I certainly didn’t or my father.

David. Did I write anything to imply that it is illegal? I don’t think I did.
Can you pls explain your post to me?

Remind me where you live again?

I have to live with the actions of this bunch, while the only effect it may have for you is possibly a few quid up or (more likely) down on your pension. I had hoped they would bring wisdom, care, a strong clear plan for the country. What seems to be the case is Tory-lite with austerity, taking from the poor via employers, bumbling about and lack of a clear plan - they don’t seem smart enough to have their noses deep in the trough yet, unlike the last bunch. Certainly I’m pleased the other lot have gone, but had hoped for something rather better than this.

You didn’t imply it but the post did. The syntax used to inform the public is confusing. It implies that permission needs to be granted ahead of any small boat crossing the Channel. That is not and has never been the case. The public deserve better.

Gosh… I’ve just rambled through this thread… which has woven itself this way and that and risks tangling itself in knots

It might be time for me to introduce a recipe ?

You were correct the first time about my pension. It has been a long time since exchange rates have been so good. It’s strange how the cup half empty people ignore the huge positives like Britain raising its profile within Europe and on the World stage.

To ramble it further. I lived in Brazil in the 70s when there was censorship. This meant that sections of newspaper articles were cut out. Each newspaper had its own way of dealing with the gaps on their pages - some used a black rectangle. My favourite approach was the use of a recipe - sometimes all of it, sometimes only part of it, depending on the amount censored. It was always the same recipe - bollo ingles.
