We are hoping to rent our house during the summer. We are not leaving out our duvets for the holiday makers as we are not providing duvet covers. That said where can I buy suitable blankets or what do others put on beds. We have a couple of cheap Ikea type fleece blankets my kids like to snuggle in.
We tend to have a combination of fleece blankets: cheap and surprisingly warm. Ours are from Dunelm, iirc, though I’m sure there will be French suppliers.
Cheap IKEA blankets won’t cut it for a rental except as a possible add-on, they don’t age very well and you’d naturally be washing them all the time, even so they pick up smells. You’d be better getting lightweight washable quilts and plain inexpensive cotton covers.
I use la Redoute for thinner summer blankets in natural fibres.
I pay to have them delivered to my house as pickup has been a nightmare in the past - delivered to a different town, and then missing when I got there.
Try DODO, they seem to do decent stuff or else my ex-Parisienne employer would not have filled her large holiday home with their sheets, duvets, pillows, mattress toppers etc.
Oh I use DODO they are good!
What about sheets and pillowcases? You’d be better off buying basic stuff from one of the suppliers that have been suggested.
Fleece is a nightmare with gîte guests as they take them outside in the evening and they get covered with tut.
They do occasionally sell the products in LeClerc as I bought DODO pillows there last year.
I got mine in a hyperInter
The letting agents provide a bundle of sheets etc. I just need to provide the blankets. Thanks
Do you run/manage gîtes as that sounds like an AI answer rather than real world experience. You’d have to be charging €250 a night or more to make real egyptian cotton a profitable option
I wouldn’t be happy to discover expensive, let alone cheap, fleece blankets if renting a gite or holiday let. There’s a reason hotels don’t use them.
Whereabouts are you? How hot is it in summer?
We’re in Lot et Garonne and DO provide duvets and duvet covers. We have air conditioning and even with that on most of our guests remove the duvets and just sleep under the covers.
I wouldn’t dream of not providing lightweight duvets and duvet covers as I believe that gives maximum flexibility.
You can get quite heavyweight cotton covers with a waffle texture which often is all that is needed over a sheet. Obviously they are very easy to wash and keep clean.
Our house is in the Vendee, its gets warm in summer. We no longer live in Europe and can’t get to the house easily so we are using an agent for weekly rentals. We had long term rentals in the past and the duvets were used for dog beds. Horrible. Summer renters are expected to either bring their own sheets or rent a bundle from the agent. Agents don’t provide duvet covers. Thanks
OK Liz, different scenario. Shame about your long term renters. Hope some of the suppliers suggested here suit you.
